BE Research Final

This document summarizes research from three papers on business ethics. The first paper discusses how business ethics has become more important since the 1970s due to issues like slavery, colonialism, and the Cold War. It also notes that environmental protection and human rights are now important considerations. The second paper examines the effect of culture on business ethics through interviews with managers in Slovenia and Italy. It found that culture influences ethics but ethical practices remain the same according to each society's standards. The third paper focuses on how ethical leadership behaviors positively influence ethical climate, reduce employee turnover intentions, and increase affective commitment. It surveyed aviation workers and found ethical leadership has direct and indirect effects in these areas.

LITERATURE REVIEW
BUSINESS ETHICS
Business ethics always gets affected by the ethics of the ongoing era due to it being a part of a
bigger social moral. The need and importance of business ethics in current era has been inspired
since 1970 and not before that due to the tainted history of slavery, colonialism and cold war
being some-what related to running a business. In the 80’s and 90s’s the world faced an economic
and natural disaster due to their previous unethical practices.
Due to the new trends that rose everyday brought a grave burden to organization and to its
consumers as well. In this era the need for ethical business practices is must in order to avoid law
suits and scandals from every direction. Due to these known behaviors of firms created a negative
perception among people, e.g., it is widely known that the advertisement today does not
promote human moral sensibility. (Lasch’s Contention, 1978) modern advertising seeks to create
new needs not to fulfill them: to generate new anxieties instead of fixing old ones. The expansion
of a business in a global scale and the decreasing numbers of barriers in worldwide trade also
brought up the somewhat news ethical values in order to recognize and promote diversity in
organizations. Furthermore, it is also believed by many scholars that environmental protection
and human rights conservation are gaining noticeability in numbers in all settings whether it is
academic or commercial or personal moral. One of the key problems that firms faced today is
how a ethical values are communicated most effectively among employees and which medium
is best suitable for it. according to (Morf, 1999) ethics is a righteous idea that can be implemented
into the decision-making process of an individual and that’ll help temper the last outcome to
conform the norms of the society. This study is mainly focus on where ethical responsibilities and
challenges resides in or as a part of business activity whether it is supported in education,
branding and other business functions. This study also suggests that discussing ethics on business
is extremely important because businesses can go unethical, there are multiple examples in this
world where businesses start making unethical decisions in order to minimize cost and maximize
profit. (Robin and Reidanbach, 1987) business is a human activity and like most human activity,
and like most human activity, it has been and is likely to be evaluated from moral point of view.
Previously, some researches has been made to note the impact of culture and its values on
business ethics of companies from Asia, North America and Europe. This research also suggests
that in an organization, top management should possess value-based leadership and show
openness + appropriate conduct to improve the ethical performance of an organization.
With above and previous findings, it can be said that business practices of all sorts need
awareness to face hurdles at global scale and to achieve that an organization needs ethical role
for it. the use of critical thinking is also found to be important part of ethical decision making
especially in puzzling areas where most people avoid it. While the other studies shows that it
important to develop a personal character, it is also important to keep an eye for understanding
risk and approaches to managing ethics in a complex organizational context.
THE EFFECT OF CULTURE ON BUSINESS ETHICS
This paper aims to find the ethics, business ethics and the cultural impact on it. this study was
made possible with the qualitative approach and contribution of 8 managers from Slovenia and
Italy who worked globally in their respective fields. As expected the study showed that the culture
played an important role and had big influence on ethics used in business and it also showed how
different values are the main factor even though the behavior is different in different countries
but the ethical practices remain same and according to the standards of that specific society.
From the day we are born we are told to act in according to moral codes. Most people follow
these rules, but some people act different from the others. Unethical behavior is visible
everywhere: at home, at school, in kindergarten and even at work. Most people in the workplace
don't know which principles are considered ethical and which are not, and therefore don't know
how to act on them. The aim of this article is to improve our understanding of the influence of
culture on ethical business behavior. The objectives of this study were a) to explore the influence
of culture on business ethics and b) to test the proposed hypotheses by interviewing leaders from
Slovenia, Italy and the US. Using this research approach, we wanted to explore the perspectives,
experiences, and beliefs of leaders and provide a deeper understanding of how culture affects
business ethics. Our aim is to provide an overview of the impact of culture on business ethics.
Section is structured as follows. First, we briefly present theoretical foundations of ethics and
business ethics to develop our research questions. Second, we present the methodology used,
the analysis and the results. Finally, we discuss the results and present future impacts and
challenges. Our primary question was what is the impact of culture on business ethics, since the
importance of international trade continues to rise. Therefore, we wanted to analyze whether
the values are really the most important factor in distinguishing cultures from each other. We
also want to know main reasons why so many international companies fail and what is the most
ethical country in the world. Qualitative data were obtained through interviews with eight senior
executives in international affairs. respondents are from Slovenia and Italy, but they work around
the world, so they know how one culture affects ethical behavior in different countries. Since the
interviewees live all over the world, it is not possible to meet all of the people, so we had to
contact some of them via Skype or a phone call. Each interview lasted about an hour.
This topic was chosen for research to see the how ethics work globally with the expectation of
differences due to different culture but we got surprised to see that business ethics goes hand in
hand throughout the globe. Our biggest hurdle was the limited numbers of applicants because
we had little time to prepare although we are hoping that future researches who wish to work
on this research again should use qualitative + quantitative methods in order to secure more
accurate result. The future researchers should also expand the numbers of interviewees and
possibly from all around the world rather than just Europe. This could also help us in capturing
the causality in the given connection between business ethics and culture.
THE EFFECT OF ETHICAL LEADERSHIP BEHAVIOR ON ETHICAL CLIMATE,
TURNOVER INTENTION, AND AFFECTIVE COMMITMENT
This research focuses on the effects of ethical leadership on ethical climate, turnover intentions
of employees and affective commitment. It is become widely known that managers are
considered role models in an organization and with their ethical leadership, they can influence
the positive ethical climate. Over the past years, several attempts have been made to understand
and explain ethical decision making and ethical behavior. The outcome of this research shows
that ethical leadership has both direct and indirect effect on employee turnover intention and
affective commitment.
The role of managers and their ethical behavior play a critical role in providing a moral framework
for organizational members (Grojean et al. 2004; Mendonca 2001) and in building the collective
character of the organization (Moore 2005; Wright and Goodstein 2007). So, ethical leaders are
fundamental factors in shaping the moral framework for an organization. This research follows a
pattern where it first gave a review of ethical leadership, ethical climate, affective commitment,
and turnover intention, then three hypotheses were presented, afterwards the research
methodology and field study analysis were given, lastly the result of this study and future
research recommendations. The three hypothesis that were given was “ethical leadership will
positively relates to the perceptions of ethical climate”,” ethical climate will mediate the
relationship between ethical leadership and affective commitment” and “ethical climate will
mediate the relationship between ethical leadership and turnover intention”. 500 participants
were chosen from three aviation maintenance centers in Turkey which ranges from middle
managers, engineers, maintenance shops chiefs and blue-collar members. The average age of
participants was 40 years which consists both 68% male and 32% female and all the participants
have spent average of 7.2 years at their ongoing jobs. In this research the 5-point Likert scale was
used in which “1 = strongly disagree” and “5 = strongly agree” was conducted. In order to avoid
common method biases, the data collection was designed and collected with a time delay (in may
and in july). The items used in this methodology were constructed In a way that high scores
equates to high level of interest but was explained to participants that there are no correct or
incorrect answers in this survey to decrease the evaluation apprehension.
Managers are indeed essential sources for organization’s success and unethical or ethical
behavior. Managers who show ethical leadership achieve moral authority and become a model
influence to the members of the organization. Managers ethical behavior effect directly to
individual flourishing and indirectly through shaping perception of ethical climate. The result of
this research shows that ethical leadership is firmly in contact with ethical climate, it also shows
that ethical climate also builds the relationship between ethical leadership and turnover
intention/affective commitment thus proving the given hypothesis. The recommendation to
future researchers is to focus on other industries and also to take external factors into
consideration such as; political beliefs, culture, etc.
BUSINESS ETHICS OF PAKISTANIS IN ISLAMABAD AND LAHORE
This research observed 318 people consisting of managers and employees in Lahore and
Islamabad to test their business ethics score based on their gender and age, as well as to see
whether there is any ethical maturity difference between face to face and online data collection
process. This research also shows how the result of this research contributes to the Kohlberg’s
moral development theory about how older age individuals have higher business ethics score.
This research can be helpful for the managers of human resource managers and non-native
workers who works alongside with local professionals.
An ethical environment is important for business and governance of any sort. The development
of ethical environment requires a culture where each individual has to act according to standards
and norms of that society. Pakistan is a religious and spiritual country and from that perspective,
faith and belief in a divine lead to greater level of morality and ethical behaviors (Barham, Younies
and Muhamad, 2009). The increasing knowledge of differentiating between wrong and write is
known as moral development and this development progress from beginning of life till the end
(Mujtaba, Tajaddini, and Chen, 2011). In this research the key question is that which demographic
variable whether age or gender makes a difference in ethical decisions of selected working
population. This research is designed to examine personal business ethics score of respondents
in two major cities of Pakistan. In order to examine the ethics research, self-administered surveys
were distributed and later the results were compared by using the “clark and clark’s tool” to see
personal business ethics scores PBSE. Around 500 hard copy of PBES survey were sent to
Pakistanis living in Islamabad and Lahore through the mediums of educational organizations and
businesses of both government and private sectors. Some of the candidates were asked to give
face to face interview. 500 online survey were also sent to the people of Islamabad but the
number of people were very low in online survey attempt. Around 1000 survey consists of 11
questions were sent through different mediums but the response rate was 31%. After the study
it was concluded that although the gender is not much of an issue but the age is an important
factor in moral developments of respondents in Pakistan because the people with old age
showed more ethical maturity as compared to the people of younger ages. With this study it was
also noticed that the people from Lahore possess less tolerance for unethical behavior in business
than the people from Islamabad. Finally, the personal business ethics score of people who took
online survey is much lower than those who took the survey face to face. In an online survey the
possibility was also noted that the respondents didn’t thoroughly think and re-read their
questions/answers.
With regards to above findings, Firstly we can conclude that age is primary factor in moral and
ethical development of Pakistani people and secondly, this matter is indeed previously not much
explored with very few studies available and the thought is not much given to achieve as to what
human beings think regarding business ethics. Therefore, It is suggested that ethics in business
should be dealt with basic understanding level before moving on to more complex relationships
with other basic management constructs.
ROLE OF ETHICS IN 21ST CENTURY
Business ethics is the most discussed subject in the present corporate and business world, as well
as in instructive and scholarly circles. In the mean-time, associations that are slanted in
performing as indicated by moral guidelines, ethics, and qualities, have perceived the significance
and importance that moral strategies and approaches are conveyed and rehearsed. The
significance of the standard of moral conduct had not been "obvious" until late years that people
and associations have been investigating to discover ways that moral conduct can be
incorporated into corporate practices.
Ethics is a training that applies to everybody in the present corporate and business world as well
as in general life, there are profound quality principles and moral conduct. This report is an
endeavor to associate examination contemplates and academic articles to perceive and
distinguish the part of ethics in contemporary business associations. The result of this study is
that ethics is "a need" (Brimmer, 2007). The expanded broadcasted defilement and the persistent
ruin of standards and qualities have led to the requirement for morals to be incorporated in
corporate practice. code that apply to all individuals the same. The code of morals should be
altogether conveyed all through the association in formal a casual manner. These guidelines must
be demonstrated and rehearsed while having the responsibility of the organization of the
association. In the meantime, there are factors, which repress moral goals and conduct like
expanding rivalry; expanding rivalry and pressure for benefits. There is arrangement for direction
and backing in instances of situations or frailties. Qualities are "what we pick as beneficial or
accept to have merit in a general or wide sense" Issues of right or wrong are identified with one's
qualities. The morals official will be empowering responsibility and possession towards the moral
program all through the association. The moral program should be supported by the morals
official, while assessing the program when the need emerges for reconsideration. This study aims
to find the deep answer of questions like “why is the principle of ethics necessary and
significant?”, “What happens when ethics is not implemented?”, “when leadership faces moral and
ethical dilemmas?”, “what types of culture promote ethics?”. After the above questions are answered
and satisfied our research we can work on how we can Implement an ethical culture in the
organization through ethical leadership development in a 21st century and Linking Ethical Leadership to
Employee Performance.

The research carried out by the above researchers is very deep and long. However, there is also
a lot of debate about whether ethical behavior is natural or learned. While goodwill, values, and
principles are nurtured, ethics are clearly designed step-by-step procedures and guidelines that
match an organization's responsibilities and commitments, which can guide the organization
throughout the decision-making process. In addition, there are theories and approaches that can
“guide ethical decision making”
BUSINESS ETHICS AND CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSILITIES
The current market atmosphere is characterized by fierce competition, forcing all companies to
strive for more success by using every business strategy or tool to ensure sustainability of the
market. Therefore, due to the significant advantages of companies in their environment,
increasing research in all areas of ethics and corporate social responsibility has been very active.
In the above context, the current research work is aimed at exploring the concepts of business
ethics and corporate social responsibility in order to clarify the relationship that may exist
between them.
This study is qualitative based on a comparative content of reviews of the literature reported on
both CSR and business ethics. The implications of the results are crucial in helping decision-
makers in organizations that view the relationship between the two concepts as building blocks
of their strategic initiatives. The role and importance of corporate social responsibility and
business ethics is mainly expressed in business development. The purpose of the study is to talk
about the main benefits that these two concepts can bring to a company. For example, they can:
1) attract customers to the company's products, thereby increasing sales and profits; 2)
encourage employees to join Company, which reduces labor turnover and thus increases
productivity; 3) attract more employees to the company, thus allowing the company to hire 4,444
most qualified employees; and 4) attract investors and keep the company's share price high,
thereby protecting the company from acquisition. The methodology convinced by this study is
qualitative in nature based on the comparative analysis of the content of the literature reported
on both CSR and business ethics. It is therefore based on secondary data. explore the relationship
between CST and Business Ethics. Therefore, the following sections of this article outline what
CSR and business ethics should follow in their relationship. From this research we found that
Corporate responsibility to stakeholders is described as a fundamental principle of business
ethics, and corporate social responsibility focuses on outcomes that benefit stakeholders. In
general, work ethics is defined to include integrity and ethical values, while work ethics is
narrowly defined focusing mainly on law and compliance. business is mainly derived from
document on management. Furthermore, while the original aim was to minimize damage to the
stakeholders, “it seems to have changed over time to the idea of 'doing good' for society as a
whole.
Business ethics and corporate social responsibility have always been the focus of research and
the subject of debate. The objective of this article is to present a literature review of CSR concepts
and business ethics and the key relationship that we should consider as key factors in the
development of companies and societies. Regardless of short approach that justifies this study
as a limitation, this study provides much needed insight into how companies deal with CSR and
business ethics.
BUSINESS ETHICS AND CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY – IS THERE A DIVIDING LINE?

There are a growing number of bodies of research into all areas of ethics and CSR that govern
corporate activities and the value systems that underpin their activities. In our article, we
explored the concepts of business ethics and corporate social responsibility with the view that
CSR should be meaningfully viewed in the context of an ethical business model. global business.
We have studied CSR through the framework of business stakeholders theory and postulated
that CSR as practiced today is a subset of business ethics with other aspects of business ethics. a
common ethical framework remains to be discovered.
In our article, we aim to explore corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the context of business
ethics. Document examines CSR as a concept and as a set of actions that are tied to corporate
ethics. Our paper builds on Freeman's (1984) interpretation of the normative stakeholder theory
cited in Parmar et al. (2010) and on the concept that organizations are "integrated" into the social
and biological environment that surrounds them (Bjerregaard and Lauring 2013 p.134). The
concepts of business ethics and social responsibility have distinct identities. However, they are
often used to denote the same argument or code. The term business ethics would be as "a
combination of two very familiar words, business and ethics" (Dimitriades 2007 pp1). The need
for business ethics in the form of CSR has become so pervasive that even in the traditional sector,
and are considered anti-environmental like the fossil fuel industry, in an article written by staff
at International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association. (IPIECA), the
authors assert the need for "good human rights policy and practice" (Owen and Sykes 2009 p.
131). This concept is now becoming important in the communities in which the industry operates,
to enhance the global reputation of oil and gas companies and gas companies. To try to
understand the ethical identification and monitoring of organizational processes and their
relationship to CSR activities, we identified a survey report `` 100 Good Corporate Citizens of CR
' 2013, by a leading magazine in the field of CSR. Journal of Corporate Responsibility (CR) for
research and ranking the dominant markers of CSR and business ethics.es and also to help them
continue to exist and enter the business. (Owens and Sykes 2009).
While all CSRs will necessarily follow business ethics, the questions asked in this survey suggest
that this is also their perception. However, we are concerned that many ethically related
practices are self-evident or quantifiable. If a company joins political associations, is it ethical?
What if financial data is audited and includes good CSR practices but is in fact cleverly fraudulent,
or if the auditor is sloppy: is unable to measure this issue and therefore did not appear in the CSR
survey. But there can be no argument that they are outside of ethics.
ROLE OF ISLAMIC BUSINESS ETHICS AND MARKET CONDIDTION ON ORGANIZATIONAL
PERFORMANCE
The purpose of this study is to check through empirical observation and the impact of islamic
business ethics and market conditions on structure performance in state-owned construction
corporations in land. information assortment during this study was conducted on-line and
therefore the total range of knowledge used was eighty-one respondents, each administrator,
heads of departments, and managers (general and project). This study uses a partial statistical
method structural equation model (PLS-SEM) with a quantitative approach that aims to check
hypotheses and relationships between variables, Islamic business ethics, market conditions,
project management, structure culture, competitive strategy, and structure performance.
This study shows Islamic business ethics includes a important direct impact on structure
performance. Market conditions don't have an on-the-spot important effect on structure
performance. Meanwhile, the mediating variables of project management and competitive
strategy have a major direct impact on structure performance. structure culture doesn't have a
major influence on structure performance. Conversely, market conditions have a major influence
through the mediating variables of project management and competitive strategy on structure
performance. Besides, this study is an effort to see the impact of the standards factors poignant
the mensuration of the performance of construction organizations in land in terms of the external
setting and structure. This study examines the effects of the external environment at Indonesian
state-owned construction companies on the organization's performance, namely: Islamic
business ethics and market conditions. school. Same as and investigate the role of mediation in
organizational performance. According to Ahmed and Shafiq (2014), organizational performance
is considered an achievement that all businesses aim, for the survival and success of the
organization. In this case, organizational structure includes project management, organizational
culture and competitive strategy. This research approach bridges the gap between theory,
practice and in integrating external environmental principles and its effects on organizational
performance. The results support the contingency theory by revealing the operating
environment-structure-organization relationship. This research was done by the help and use of
given theories like “Islamic Economic theory” which states that the present development ideals
based on the philosophy of Islamic life and “contingency theory” which states that there is no
one best way to lead an organization instead, the optimal course of action is dependent on given
situation.
The above research provides theoretical and practical contributions, although this study still has
limitations for future research. It is hoped that this can also be done based on the development
of more developed tools that are more efficient and effective, including measures of operational
practices of external organizations that were not included in the study, as well as than using a
sample size greater than to reassess the efficacy associated with the results of these studies.
Employee Business Ethics: A Comparative Study on Employee Perceptions
This study examines employee perceptions and practices related to work ethics as well as the
influence of these perceptions by age, gender, location, nationality and size of the organization.
in two countries affected by the severe financial crisis. The aim was to explore employee
perceptions of work ethics, whether ethical perceptions can be grouped into categories, and
whether demographics influence employee moral perceptions.
Despite discussions around the world regarding the complicated topic of the recent global
financial crisis and trying to explain the complexity of the malicious tools that created the bursting
bubble, the consensus opinion is that the sole cause of the crisis is lack of morality. Ethics not
only emerges in decision making not only at the top management levels of financial institutions
and corporations, but also in many high-ranking officials and politicians. Reference [43] indicates
that the history of business is rich with examples of extreme forms of unethical behavior by and
within companies. When these cases are made public by mainstream lunatics such as 19th-
century Upton Sinclair or today's NGOs, by internal whistleblowers or by official investigations,
the public often shocked. It seems puzzling how acts that seem to violate any sense of good
morality can happen. Scandals involving unethical practices, such as pinching, dumping toxic
waste, discrimination in employment and sexual harassment, etc. has led many to confuse as a
sign of moral decline. A cross-cultural questionnaire survey was conducted among 1901
employees in two European countries, who are facing similar financial problems and need
financial support from the EC, ECB and IMF. The results show that employees' perceptions of
professional ethics can be grouped into seven broad categories. Despite the large body of
research on business ethics, this paper is the first attempt at factor analysis to group together
ethical perceptions related to work. The study was carried out in two phases. First, employee
attitudes and perceptions of professional ethics were explored in a series of interviews with some
4,444 people working in industry and the community. university. This qualitative method for data
collection was chosen because it was deemed more appropriate than for exploratory purposes.
A total of 7 employees were interviewed and to ensure that participants representative of the
sample were selected from different ages and representative of all levels of the organizational
hierarchy. The second step is to survey the target group. The target population for the study
included all employees of as many as possible from companies. A total of 1,924 responses were
collected from two countries out of which 1,901 were valid. Survey respondents aged 18 to years
or older, currently employed and employed by an organization employing at least two people.
From the results of this study, it can be concluded that age, gender and country of origin are
factors that seem to influence the ethical values and ethical behavior of employees in the
workplace. Education level seems to affect only ethical behavior in the workplace, while salary
and organization size are the factors that influence employee moral values. Research shows that
position does not affect ethical values or ethical behavior in the workplace. It also show old age
employees, exhibit more ethical attitudes and show more engagement and ethics towards their
organizations.
THE PERCEPTION OF ETHICS IN BUSINESS: ANALYSIS OF RESEARCH RESULTS
Business ethics are paramount for the survival of businesses in many countries and regions. If a
company wants to be seen as a trusted business partner, it needs to implement elements of that
concept, or even the concept itself. Taking into account the previous cases, the objective of our
article is to determine the extent and scope of the use of Ethics in Business in Poland and the
Czech Republic, in three sectors of the economic economy, more specifically pharmaceutical,
tobacco and alcohol industries.
Few business concepts are as widely accepted as business ethics, mainly because of the fact that
much has changed recently in modern business practices. It can be argued that business ethics
and CSR are of critical importance to the survival of businesses in many countries and regions. If
a company is to be seen as a trusted business partner, it must implement elements of both
concepts and even concepts themselves. Given these facts, it is not uncommon for many business
schools in Europe, and most of these schools in the United States, to offer business ethics
programs (Donaldson & Fafaliou, 2003). The object of the study includes a group of 200
companies operating in the aforementioned fields. Our research confirms that companies in the
mentioned sectors use business ethics in their operations, although the scale differs. Most
importantly, our research has confirmed that business ethics is considered an important factor
affecting both the success and profitability of modern businesses, and its role will increase. up in
the future. Research topics include a group of 200 companies operating in the alcohol industry
(40 companies), the tobacco industry (30 companies) and the pharmaceutical industry (also 30
companies). The questionnaires were sent to companies that, according to the Pareto rule,
represent at least 80% (and in some sectors even 100%) of the production potential of companies
in the relevant field. Research conducted from February to May 2014. proposed responses were
provided in each of the analyzed areas, that is, respondents were asked to comment on the
proposed item, answer "yes", "no" or "I don't 'don't know'; or indicate the correct answer on a
scale of 1 to 5 points (1 - "I completely disagree" and 5 - " I completely agree.” In total, 54
responses were ultimately received, including completed questionnaires (21 in Poland vs. 26 in
Czech Republic). This study aims to determine the breadth and scope of the use of business ethics
in the areas analyzed and was conducted by in several key areas: Ethical institutions, About
myself and About the stakeholders of my company.
Our research confirmed that companies in the mentioned industries use business ethics in their
operations, although their size varies. There are similarities as well as differences between
specific industries and countries. For example, one could say that Czech respondents are much
more determined than others: the number “I don't know” is the smallest. Most importantly, our
research confirms that business ethics are seen as an important factor influencing both the
success and profitability of modern businesses, and the role it plays. The results obtained may
indicate the need for further research on the subject presented. However, this can be difficult
due to respondents' reluctance to participate in the study.
