Experiment 2

The document outlines the design specifications for a shell and tube heat exchanger using SS-304 material for both the shell and tubes. It includes details on dimensions, operating pressures, design temperatures, baffle spacing, and nozzle sizes. Additionally, it instructs to prepare a bill of materials and fabrication drawings based on the provided enrollment number data.

Heat Exchanger

Design a shell & tube heat exchanger based on the following data:

Shell: Material: SS-304

Diameter: Enrollment wise (in mm)
Operating Pressure: 3.0 kg/cm2g
Design Pressure: 5.0 kg/cm2g
Design Temperature: 80 0C
Tube: Material: SS-304
O.D. & Thickness: 19.05 mm & 16 BWG
Length: Enrollment wise (in mm) 5000 mm
No. of Tubes: Maximum possible as per dia.
Pass: 2
Design Pressure: 6.0 kg/cm2g
Design Temperature: 80 0C
Baffle: Spacing: 200 mm
Type: 25% SSEG
Head: Type: Torispherical head
Crown Radius: 500 mm
Knuckle radius 50 mm
Design parameter same as tube side
Nozzle: Shell side: 100 mm N.B. & 10 sch pipe for
both inlet & outlet
Tube side: 50 mm N.B. & 10 sch pipe for
both inlet & outlet
Extra as standard requirement.

Design the fixed tube sheet (BEM) type heat exchanger and prepare bill of
material and fabrication drawing for the same. Assume suitable data if not
provided.

Note: Use Enrollment number for shell and tube diameter. Like for entollment
number 5 shell diameter is 500 mm and for enrollment 6 shell diameter is 600
and for enrollment number 50 shell diameter is 550 mm.

Same as for Enrollment number 5 tube length 5000 mm and for enrollment
number 50, tube length is 5050 mm.
