There are many lessons and things that I have learned in the Disaster Risk Reduction Management
(DRRM) webinar. First are the different types of disaster like geophysical disaster, hydrological disaster,
climatological disaster, and meteorological disaster. We need to address the issues of disaster here in
our country for us to have the warning, signal and even for all of us in our country to know how and
what to do to prevent things to happen, especially our country is not ready for the big one like what
Capt. Joebert said on the webinar. Preventing things can be sometimes possible but also impossible
because of the other things that other people do for the certain problem to be big and sometimes
cannot be lessen. Addressing those issues is a big help because other people are not certain or the do
not know what to do if those disasters are already facing them. Also, when we address the issue of
disaster in our country, it is possible and there is a big chance of having a great result; like people will be
more prepared and they already know what they will do and there is a big chance of saving many lives
because of the early addressing of the disaster here in our country.
November 6, 2014, Thursday morning, I went to the barangay hall of Barangay Batasan Hills, located in
Quezon City. I went there but unfortunately the Kagawad incharged of the peace and order is not there
because of some personal matters but I interviewed Ms. Jocelyn Dalumpines who is working under the
committee of those who help and organizer things related in the Community Disaster Risk Reduction
Plan. As I was interviewing her, I asked her what are those things they do when there disaster that is
taking place specifically when there are flood. She said that the most important thing they do is they
rescue those people who are in need of help that is the number one thing that is important according to
her. I asked her again, if they rescue people where they will let the victims stay for a while and what are
the things they will do or what things they offered to them. She said that after rescuing those victims the
immediately send them in the evacuation center and the also give things like the relief goods and other
things. They also conducted a MASS FEEDING, according to her when the typhoon Mario took place.
They also had a seminar regarding disaster risk management, the do’s and don’ts when there is fire and
other disaster. There is this follow up where in there is still no final and specific date for this plan to take
place and this is the actual training set in Laguna.
As a Filipino, the actions that will do to address the different vulnerabilities in our own community is
that I will try to do my best to help in the projects or plan of the barangay. I will also try not to be shy to
express what I want to say and what I want them to know because I know that it’s also for their own
safety and their family. Also if I speak out I know that the knowledge and works I will say will give them
ideas or simply knowledge in that certain matter.
The best time to address issues if the Disaster Risk Reduction Management is… there is no such thing as
the best time because anytime is always the right time because it is for the safety of all the people. And
also ALL of US should be involved in addressing these issue because everyone of us has the responsibility
to remind people around us on what things and ways they should do for them to be safe.
