A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES
Prayer
Class, please stand up for the Carmille: The Lord’s prayer. Our Father,
prayer. Carmille, kindly lead the Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy
prayer name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be
done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give
us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our trespasses as we forgive those
you trespass against us, and lead us
not into temptation but deliver us from
evil Amen.
Good morning class.
Students: Good morning ma’am, good
morning classmates.
Checking of Attendance
Okay class, all the leaders in the group
1 and group 2 will give me the list of “Yes ma’am”
members who are absent.
B. ESTABLISHING A PURPOSE FOR
THE LESSON
Motivation
And now, I will group you into two
groups. This is group 1 and this group is
group 2. This game is called “Fix me, I’m
broken”.
Direction: I will give you a picture that is
being cut into pieces and you will be going
to fix it. After you have fixed the picture (Students listen to the direction actively)
display your work on the blackboard. The
group that will be the first to finish is the
winner.
Note:
Group 1: Potential Energy
POTENTIAL ENERGY
Group 2: Kinetic Energy
KINETIC ENERGY
Are you ready? Let’s get started.
Students: Yes ma’am.
Answers:
GROUP 1
POTENTIAL ENERGY
Who can tell me what is in the picture?
Anyone from the group 1?
Yes, Ce Angelica.
Ce Angelica: The girl is sitting and the
energy is being stored. It is Potential
energy.
GROUP 2
KINETIC ENERGY
Who can tell me what is in the picture?
Anyone from the group 2?
Yes, Ciara Lou.
Ciara Lou: The two kinds are dancing
and the energy is being use. It is Kinetic
energy.
Did you have difficulty fixing the picture?
Students: No ma’am.
Based on your activity, what do you think is
our lesson for today? (Students raise their hand)
Anyone?
Yes Angelica.
Angelica: Our lesson for today is all
about the two categories of energy, the
potential and kinetic energy.
Alright! That’s it. Thank you Angelica.
C. PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON
Discussion
Today we will be learning about the two
categories of energy, the potential and
kinetic energy. I will be showing you a Students: Yes, ma’am.
video and you must listen and watch
carefully, understand?
“Video showing on the potential and kinetic
energy”
From the video that you have watched,
what do you think is Potential Energy?
Anyone?
Yes, Elvie.
Elvie: Potential energy is energy an
object has that is stored because of its
Thank you Elvie. position or state.
How about Kinetic Energy?
Anyone?
Yes, Re Ann.
Re Ann: Kinetic energy is energy an
Thank you Re Ann. object has because it is in motion.
ENERGY
(Potential and Kinetic Energy)
All the materials that can do work have
energy. Energy is the ability of a living or
nonliving things to do work. Energy exists
in different forms such as heat, motion,
light, chemical, and sound. There are also
sources of energy; it could be solar energy,
electric energy, wind energy, and other.
Energy cannot be created nor be destroyed
it can changed from one form to another.
While there are different forms of
energy, all the different forms can be put
into two categories.
TWO CATEGORIES OF ENERGY
1. Kinetic energy
– That’s energy in motion and
energy that is working.
Example: A child jumping on the bed.
2. Potential energy
– That’s energy stored in an
object due to its position. It is a
stored energy and is waiting to work.
Example: A ball in a basketball player’s
hands.
Okay class, if you are listening.
What is energy again? Anyone? (Students raise their hand)
Yes, Charmaine.
Charmaine: Energy is the ability of a
living or nonliving things to do work.
Thank you Charmaine.
Okay class, to understand more about
kinetic and potential energy, I will give you
another example.
POTENTIAL ENERGY
Example:
Bicycle on the top of a hill
A parked car
Who can give another example of potential
energy?
Anyone?
Yes, Josephine.
Josephine: A girl standing still.
Can you please come here in front to
execute your example, Josephine? Josephine: Yes ma’am, like this
(Josephine execute her example)
Okay thank you Josephine. You can go
back to your seat now.
So again class, potential energy is energy
stored in an object due to its position. It is a
stored energy and is waiting to work.
For KINETIC ENERGY
Example:
Pulling a wagon
A pumping frog
Who can give me another example of
kinetic energy?
Anyone?
Yes, Charise.
Can you please come here in front to Charise: A girl who is dancing.
execute your example, Charise?
Charise: Yes ma’am, like this (Charise
Okay thank you Charise. You can go back execute her example)
to your seat now.
So again class, kinetic energy is energy in
motion and energy that is working.
Okay class, there are also three different
types of potential energy.
1. Chemical Potential Energy
When you eat, you take in
another type of potential
energy. Chemical potential
energy is the energy stored in
bonds between the atoms
that make up matter.
Remember that atoms are
joined together by chemical
bonds to form molecules.
As shown in the picture Chemical
potential energy can be released during
chemical reactions when these bonds
are broken. You get energy by eating
because food contains chemical
potential energy. Fossil fuels, such as
oil and coal, are energy sources
because they contain chemical potential
energy.
Example:
2. Gravitational Potential Energy
The energy an object has due
to its position above the earth.
Example:
The hanging rock in the picture has
gravitational potential energy due to its
height above the ground. The higher an
object is above the ground or the greater its
mass, the more gravitational potential
energy it has.
3. Elastic Potential Energy
When we compressed a
spring, energy stored in the
spring. After, some it will back
to their original shape.
So elastic potential energy is
the energy stored in elastic
materials as the result of their
stretching or compressing.
Example:
So now that you’ve understood more about ENERGY
kinetic and potential energy. I have here a
graphic organizer which you need to fill up.
I will call someone to come here in front
and fill the box about the two categories of
energy and discuss your answer. 1 2

Alright, Very good everyone. You can go
back to your seat now.
Okay class, just always remember that
potential energy converts to kinetic energy.
Application
Group Activity
Now, we are going to have a group
activity. I will group you into two (2) groups.
Each group will be given a task. So, this is
group 1 and this group is group 2. This
activity called “charades”.
Direction: Here’s the thing that you will do.
Choose a representative in your group that
will act out in front. Each of the group will
be given a phrase that they will act out in
front and the remaining members will guess (Students listen to the direction actively)
the correct answer. The possible answer
could be kinetic energy or potential energy.
The group who get the highest score will be
the winner.
Note: Each of the group will be given 2
minutes.
Group 1 – They will be given a phrase
consist of Kinetic Energy.
Running
Bouncing
Jumping
Dancing
A lamp turned on
Running water
Rolling ball
Moving car
Flying airplane
Walking
Skateboarding
Meteor shower
Group 2 – They will be given a phrase
consist of Potential Energy.
Sitting
Standing
Sleeping
A lamp
A battery
Parked car
Light’s off
A boy/girl standing still
Bicycle
Food
A stretched rubber band
Stop
Are you ready? Let’s get started.
Students: Yes ma’am.
Generalization
Okay everybody stand up and do the
actions that I will say. Students: Okay ma’am.
Sit, run in place, dance, stand, walk, and
stretch. (Students follow the actions)
Okay thank you everyone for cooperating,
you can sit down now.
Do you do this actions everyday?
Students: Yes ma’am.
What other actions you usually do?
Anyone?
Yes, Ciara.
Ciara: Sleeping ma’am.
Who else?
Kathy.
Kathy: Bathing ma’am.
Okay so we walk, sleep, run, eat, and other
actions that we do in our everyday life. In
that way, we constantly used energy,
whether we’re moving or not. Our bodies
are constantly converting potential energy
into kinetic energy back to potential energy.
IV. EVALUATION
Individual Activity
Direction: Identify the following pictures
presented whether it is potential or kinetic
energy and give the difference between the
two pictures. Answers:
