DAY 1
Recognize You Have a Problem
Feeling unhappy or dissatisfied is not something that you need to suppress, ignore, or
get over. It’s a signal that something needs to shift, and this shift can only happen when
you honestly examine which behaviors you want to change in our life. This could be
something as clear as a substance addiction or as subtle as negative thinking or your
relationship with social media.

Today you honestly and specifically choose a behavior or situation you want to heal.
This is the first step to being willing to change.

JOURNALING QUESTIONS

1. What do I want to change?

2. What pain or fear do I associate with change in this area?

3. What pleasure am I getting out of not changing?

4. What will it cost me if this doesn’t change?

DAY 2 BONUS LESSON
Conscious Gratitude
All of the tough-it-out or self-help sentiments may be very true. BUT, we can’t use those
concepts to varnish over the not-so “positive” aspects of challenges. That’s “spiritual
bypassing.” We use that approach to avoid the things that are ugly, disharmonious, and
out of balance. This exercise will help you move out of that spiritual glamour space so
you can transform suffering from challenges into clarity and power.

JOURNALING QUESTIONS

1. What are one or two super challenging or awful things that have happened to you
this year?

2. Now, write down what the stiff upper lip, disconnected, or “positive-thinking” re-
sponse might be to what happened. Such as: “Everything happens for a reason.
It’s karma. It’s all meant to be. They tried their best. I’m over it. I create my reality. I
attracted this. There’s a gift in the pain.”

3. Now take full ownership for transforming the pain into positive power. Be grateful
for your faith, your friends, your strength to handle it. Such as: “This is how I became
stronger. This is how I used this to grow. This is why I am wiser. Here’s why I am
amazing in spite of the challenge.”

THE SUMMIT OF YOUR LIFE DAY 2 continued... onecommune.com 6

DAY 2 BONUS LESSON CONTINUED...

4. There is insight and grace now, or at least more strength and resilience. What good
came out of the challenge? “I met new people. I deepened friendships. I started fresh.
I created…”

5. Focus your gratitude specifically on the personal growth and positive gains that came
from your challenging experience. Think about how you rose to the occasion and
came out on the other side. Think about your strength, class, resiliency, grace, hu-
mour, smarts, heart...

DAY 3
Discover the Root Cause
Functional medicine seeks to identify and address the root causes of disease. It treats
the whole system, not just the symptoms. It is the medicine of why, not what. Not, “What
disease do you have and what drug do you use?” but, “Why do you have those symp-
toms and how can we fix the root causes and optimize your health?”

JOURNALING QUESTIONS

1. What is one health issue you could commit to focusing on this year?

2. What are the symptoms of this issue, and how do they affect your enjoyment of life?

3. What are potential lifestyle changes (nutrition, forms of exercise, stress reduction,
chemical exposure) that may be beneficial? Make sure you check with your doctor
before starting any new exercise or nutrition program!

RESOURCES

Here is the list of questions to ask your doctor to make sure they are willing to be an ad-
vocate for your optimal health.

Here’s a resource to find a Functional Medicine doctor in your area. If not doctors are
available, we recommend you take Dr. Hyman’s full 10-day Commune course to better
understand how you can work with your doctor to get the lab tests you need.

are interconnected with my lifestyle, including my diet, forms of exercise, and stress levels.

Some lifestyle changes that I think could help are ______________________________.

I am committed to working with my doctor not just to alleviate my symptoms, but to truly
get to the root cause of this health condition.

DAY 4
Set Intentions with Clarity
Psychological clarity about the qualities of your best self and your daily purpose in life is
directly tied to your wellness. In order to feel motivated and happy, it helps to be clear
about who you would like to be, how you want to treat others, and how you can im-
prove yourself a little every day. This is especially important if you are going through a
life transition or are feeling lost and adrift.

JOURNALING QUESTIONS

1. Who do I want to be in my current situation?

Write down 10 words that define the best of part of who you are or who you could be.
Then circle the top 3.

Action Step: Set up reminders using these words to reinforce your best qualities.

2. Who should I be socially? How should I treat other people? How should I treat this
specific person in the context of our relationship?
Start by writing down how you ideally want to treat all people, as an expression of your best self. Then
identify a social scenario, professional or personal, where you want to improve how you show up. Write
down how you currently interact in this scenario and how you can improve.

Action Step: In your next conversation or meeting, set an intention for how you want to interact in that
space and with those people. Reflect afterwards on how well you embodied your intention.

DAY 4 CONTINUED...

3. If I’m going to make a difference in the world and feel more purpose in my life, what
skills do I need to deepen or focus on in my life?
Write down 3 skills you can develop and how greater proficiency in each of them would enrich your life.
What habits or actions can you implement to help you improve these skills?

4. How can I contribute in a way that makes me feel engaged and fulfilled? How can I be
of service in a way that’s meaningful to me? How can I do this task well, and do it in a
way that I enjoy it?
Write down a task or area of your life that you do not enjoy or feels heavy. Then write how you could
engage differently with it in a more positive and productive way.

C L A R I T Y S TAT E M E N T

The three words that define my best self are __________, _________, and _________.

DAY 5
Find Time in Your Day
This worksheet is meant to be completed after you have done your time audit.

To do your time audit, set a 15 to 30 minute timer on your phone and every time it goes
off, write down exactly what you were doing. It doesn’t have to be pretty – we’re just
capturing what your day looks like, in detail.

JOURNALING QUESTIONS

1. What is one area of your “life garden” that you would like to find more time for? This
could be personal self-care, hobbies or passions, your family, your career, etc. Be spe-
cific with what you would do during that time.

2. Circle areas in your audit where you feel you were being inefficient with your time.
For example, how much time did you spend on social media?

3. Which activities were you mindfully engaged in, and which were mindless?

4. What are some ways you could bring mindfulness into your daily activities? For exam-
ple, light stretching while your coffee is brewing, or listening to an educational pod-
cast or really appreciating a piece of music in the car. The goal is not to pack your day
for maximum efficiency, but with balance and meaning. Even teeth brushing time can
be a moment of intentional reflection.

DAY 6
Strengthen Your Commitment
JOURNALING QUESTIONS

1. Where in your life would you like to bring more commitment?

2. Visualize yourself in this situation where you want more commitment. Imagine your-
self setting your mind and achieving what you set out to. What do you do, say, or feel?

C L A R I T Y S TAT E M E N T

DAY 7
Bring Love to All Relationships
There is no way to separate your spiritual journey from your relationship to other people.
So if we seek to elevate our experience of life, we must examine how we interact with
others. And how we interact with others has a lot to do with whether we ourselves are
channeling love or living in fear.

JOURNALING QUESTIONS

1. What are situations where you find yourself thinking in fear?

2. How do you bring my fears into my relationships with others? Think of a recent inter-
action you had that came from a place of fear. How can you approach that relation-
ship from a place of love in the future?

3. Does your morning routine help you prepare for a day where you channel love? How
could you adapt your routine to prepare yourself for better relationships throughout
the day?

C L A R I T Y S TAT E M E N T

I find myself thinking with fear when _________________________________________.

This fear can show up in my relationships when _________________________________.

In order to set myself up to show up for my relationships with love, in the morning I am going to

DAY 8
Feel Your Interdependence
Everything connects us to a bigger picture of life. And by acknowledging our connection
to all of life, we don’t feel so cut off and alone because, in truth, we’re not.

JOURNALING QUESTIONS

1. Who has contributed to you being here, now? Who has affected them?

2. What forces allow you to be here, now? How can you support and strengthen those
forces in turn?

3. Describe a specifically striking example of interconnection in your life. How does ac-
knowledging the vast interconnectedness of life make you feel?

C L A R I T Y S TAT E M E N T

I acknowledge that I am where I am today because _____________ _________________.

I am grateful for the many interwoven forces that allow me to live and aspire to be my best

self, including _______________________ _____ ______________________________.

By acknowledging that all of life is interconnected, I feel ____________________________.

THE SUMMIT OF YOUR LIFE DAY 8 onecommune.com 16

DAY 9
Break Out of Your Bubble
When you only see information from inside your “in-group” you are prone to deepen your
stereotypes and develop implicit biases — even if that’s not your intention. Breaking out
of your “in-group” takes conscious effort, but is an important step because it builds em-
pathy for others experiences.

JOURNALING QUESTIONS

1. Who do you identify as your in-groups? Write down the first answers that come to
mind for the statement:

“I am a… _______________________________________________________.”

2. Think about who you interact with on a daily basis, including friends, social feeds, etc.
What groups are not represented?

3. What are ways you can gain exposure to these groups? Take 5 minutes to do some
research and write down 3-4 books, podcasts, social feeds, or volunteer organiza-
tions that interest you.

C L A R I T Y S TAT E M E N T

I identify as a ______________________________________________ and recognize that

these are my “in-groups.” However, I would like to gain exposure to the lived experience of

_________________________________________. After some research, I am excited to

break out of my in-group bubbles by engaging with _______________________________.

DAY 10
You Can Be an Advocate
Advocates are an important part of every movement. They are the ones who spread
awareness and information, creating momentum for larger cultural and policy shifts. You
don’t have to be one of the experts to be an advocate!

JOURNALING QUESTIONS

1. What is a social or environmental issue that you are passionate about?

2. What is your “response-ability” with this issue? What actions are within your power to take?

3. In particular, how can you help spread awareness about this issue? Give three specif-
ic examples of how you can spread awareness. (For example, one-on-one with your
friends, giving a talk through a local organization, reaching out to policymakers, etc.)

C L A R I T Y S TAT E M E N T

An issue I care deeply about is _______________________________________________.

While I may not be an expert in this topic, I realize that I have the “response-ability” to
