Rationale: Collaboration, Vision/Mission, Moral & Legal Considerations

The safety of the students and staff is important. To come up with this type of calendar,

it takes a collaborative effort to do so. Those at the district office as well as administration and

the leadership team at the school created the safety calendar. Everyone was mindful to leave

some flexibility within the calendar just in case there were some type of emergencies that

occurred where dates and times had to be changed. This calendar is shared within the leadership

team and not the staff. The leadership team and administration comes together and plan various

scenarios to ensure that the students and staff are mindful of the procedures that have been put in

place for safety measures during these situations.

SAFETY CALENDAR 8

In the development of this calendar, there were many areas to consider such as the

legalities of the situations, the logistics and also how it would align with the mission, vision and

moral areas of the school. Moving the students from the school presented some legal and

logistical issues, but this is why in the beginning of the school year, parents are given various

consent forms to sign and return. Also, some could question the morality behind when we

contact parents during an evacuation, and we wanted to ensure that there was a system in place

where we would ensure staff and students were safe before parents were contacted.

Student and staff safety is our number one priority so taking the time to ensure that we

have and maintain various safety measures on the school campus is key to ensure that everyone

remains safe.
