Beginner's Guide to the FITT Principle

The document discusses the FITT principle, which stands for frequency, intensity, time, and type of exercise. It provides guidelines for an effective workout routine. Frequency refers to how often one exercises per week. Intensity means how hard one works during a workout. Time is how long each exercise session lasts. Type indicates what kind of exercises are performed, such as cardio vs strength training. Examples are given for applying each part of the FITT principle, such as exercising each body part 3-4 days per week, choosing continuous cardio exercises, and avoiding overtraining by limiting workout time. The FITT principle provides a framework for developing an exercise routine tailored to one's fitness level and goals.

1. What is the FITT Principle?

The F.I.T.T. Principle is one of the foundations of exercise, a set of guidelines

that help you set up a workout routine for maximum benefit. FITT is the acronym for
Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type of Exercise. It is especially suited to a beginner’s
efforts because it spells out exactly what he or she should do to get started. Applying
the FITT principle will ensure that your training is reasonably effective. These four
principles of fitness training may answer he following questions; Frequency-How often
you exercise, Intensity-How hard you work during exercise, Time-How long you
exercise, and Type-What kind of exercise do you perform.

2. Give three examples?

For instance in one of the principles related to the frequency of exercise, a

program that works every body part every session should be completed 3-4 days a
week with a day's rest between sessions. The second example would be when we use
the third component of the FITT principle which dictates what type or kind of exercise
you should choose; it is advised to improve the cardiovascular system wherein the
exercise should be continuous in nature like running and/or walking. Lastly, upon
understanding the FITT Principle and applying it effectively, we must mind the final
component which is the time, in cases like athletes practicing too much. Beyond a
certain point they uncover the risk of overtraining and injury, since too much of a good
thing isn’t good anymore.
