I am writing to apply for the scholarship of AERC Master of science program in Economics at the
Addis Ababa University. The degree from one of the most recognized and prestigious university
is my chance to make a substantial progress in personal career and thus contribute to Ethiopian
economic development in particular and African development in general.
I was graduated with Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics from Addis Ababa University in July,
2019 with CGPA of 3.96 in major and 3.93 in overall courses. During this time, I developed a
particular interest in the relationship between trade, economic growth and privatization with
moderate and advanced econometrics models. Furthering this interest, my BA thesis which was
supervised by Doctor Fantu Guta used econometrics techniques of dynamic panel data to the
determinants and potential of foreign trade of Ethiopia. My aim is to know the factors affecting
the total trade of Ethiopia and to know the trade potential of Ethiopia from the world countries and
to advise on trading partners on exploited or untapped trade potential.
I was engaged in voluntary activities in preparing and giving lectures on economics for first year
and second year students during in campus. I also gave trainings in research methodology, stata
(panel data, time series data) to third year economics students as well as revised and gave
comments to their research before they sent to their advisor. I served as the moderator of peace
club when I was second and third year. I have a reputation of being dedicated, dependable and
cooperative when it comes to working with other students and administrators.
Studying in Addis Ababa University with the support of AERC will allow me to explore the long-
term experience of research, gain knowledge and skills in the field of economics and policy
analysis and forecasting, advanced econometrics models and statistical tools to advice politicians
and leaders, which can be used for creating better and sustainable fiscal and monetary policy for
Ethiopia in particular and for African in general.
This is my way, the way of a person who wants, for certain, to change the fortune of Africa and
its’ folk. I am a drop of my agrarian people and the fortune of all the ocean depends on my personal
experience, knowledge which I can and want to pass the other people.
In conclusion, I would like to say that I am eager to gain new experiences, improve my skills and
broaden my understanding of the dynamic economic world, and I am persuaded that studying in
the masters of science in economics would contribute to my development as a specialist of
international level in the best possible way.
Yours sincerely
