Ikigai

The book reviews IKIGAI by Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles, which discusses finding one's purpose in life called an Ikigai and lessons from Japanese centenarians on health and longevity. While the book focuses more on benefits of having an Ikigai than helping to find one, it provides motivation to discover one's own purpose.

Book Review- IKIGAI by Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles

It’s a wonderful book to start off the year with an abundance of positivity and inspiration. The book is
about the secrets of having a long and joyful life.

Ikigai, what is this mysterious word? It’s nothing but the purpose of life. Have you found your Ikigai? I
have. Of course, it is reading. When I read, I get into the flow, escape the reality and enter into a dream
world. That’s exactly what Ikigai is, losing the sense of time and to find happiness in the process. If you
have already found yours, Thumbs up, enjoy your life!! If not, keep searching. This book gives you the
tools to find your own. Your Ikigai doesn’t have to be a big mission that could change the world; it can
be a simple daily routine with which you can feel happy and relaxed.

The authors have interviewed over a 100’s of Japanese centenarians and shared their words of wisdom
on longevity in the book. They discuss about what are the diets and exercises they follow to add years in
their life. Also they tell about how the elderly keep themselves busy with work, nurture friendships,
support each other within the community to have a joyful and stress free life. Furthermore, they explain
about practices such as Yoga, Tai chi and Qi gong which promotes health and longevity.

On the downside, the book talks a great deal about the benefits of having an Ikigai rather than helping
to find one. Nevertheless, you get the right amount of motivation from the book to find yours.

I can recommend this book for people who looking for inspiration to lead a healthy lifestyle. It’s
definitely a book worth reading!!
