JAIPUR: The pink city
Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan and the tenth most populous city of India, is a plethora of
history and architectural wonders. Jaipur is known as the pink city for the beautiful pink hue of
hospitality adorning its awe-inspiring buildings.

The old city gives you a warm welcome with the three arches inscribed in snowy-white floral
patterns at the Ajmeri Gate. With beautiful historical monuments like The Hawa Mahal, built of
pink sandstones and the city Palace, once a patron of arts, commerce and a place of religious and
cultural importance, it is a dream come true for the history buffs.
The Rajput history consists of a lot of architecture. Jantar Mantar is an astronomical observatory
made in 1728 and consists of the world's largest sundial. Jal Mahal is scenic palace built in the
middle of Man Sagar lake. Sisodia Rani Ka Bagh is a palace with ornate gardens. Albert Hall
Museum and Ramniwas Bagh are also some of the most important landmarks to visit.
With picturesque Hindu temples like Akshardham Temple and Jagath Shiromani temple, it is
also has a religious aspect to it.
Chokhi Dhani Village with live folk song and dance performances, puppet shows, camel riding
and much more to offer, and Javahar Kala Kendra, filled with music, dance & even theatre, are
places of entertainment in the old city.
The vibrant markets of the old city dates back to the 1700s. Johri Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar &tibbati
market are some of the markets. While the modern-day markets are known for their jewelry,
pottery and fabrics, the old markets like Johri bazaar haven't changed much with arrays of
beautiful juttis and gemstone accessories. If you feel like you are forgetting the delicate art
of bargaining, this sure is an opportunity to revive it. With fabric ranging from indigo dyeing to
mirror work embroidery and crafts ranging from lac bangles to marble handicrafts and the
signature blue pottery, the markets are a sanctuary for the shopaholics amongst us.
