TCM Limited is one of the oldest companies in the region founded by

Nobel Laureate Sir C.V. Raman and Dr. P. Krishnamurthy in the year
1943 as Travancore Chemical Manufacturing Company Ltd and
subsequently the name was changed to TCM Ltd in the year 1996.
TCM during its 75 years of history, established manufacturing units in
different locations in India right from 1944 onwards. TCM became one of
the pioneers in the manufacturing sector especially with Organic and
inorganic chemicals, Fungicides, Herbicides, Barium and Strontium salts,
Strontium Nitrate, Sodium Sulfide, and various other derivatives.

Though we have downsized all the manufacturing activity as part of our diversification and strategical
deployment of business, still we are active and holding a commanding position as a credible supplier
of the above products in the Indian market. TCM now diversified its operations into Renewable
Energy, Aquaculture, Plantation, Food Processing, Import and Export, and International Trading with
a wide network across the globe spreading in more than 52 countries vibrantly functioning with a wide
network of more than 1200 dedicated people, who make our vision clearer and more special.

A brief introduction to “enso” enlightened active safety …

The Concept

In every automobile, the function of the headlight is to illuminate the road ahead of the automobile to reveal
objects ahead from a safe distance. At the same time, it should cause minimum discomfort for drivers
coming from the opposite side.
To achieve this, a 'meeting' beam (dip beam) is provided in addition to the driving beam (high beam) to
reduce the dazzle for those approaching head-on to the vehicle.
While the present practice is to manually switch between the beams,
Once installed "“enso”," It thinks like a human and works like a robot, takes over the manual switching.
Intelligently, Automatically, and Rationally select the headlight beam either high beam or dip beam on given
particular road conditions, without the intervention of the driver from its default low beam position.
A study carried out by Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi, (Road Research Paper No.216), reveals
the poor state of affairs on the Indian roads, regarding dipping. The observations and recommendations of
the study group on road safety constituted by the Government of India vide Resolution No.19T (14) 68,
dated June 3, 1969, is as follows:
A frequent cause of accidents at night is the glare caused by oncoming vehicles which momentarily blinds
the driver's vision. It takes three to eight seconds for a person with good eyesight to recover from the glare
and during this time the vehicle will cover a long distance in utter darkness and it will be sheer luck to
escape from an accident.

Manual Beam Shifting

Manual beam shifting is not being done satisfactorily due to a variety of reasons, which includes the sheer
physical strain involved in the operation of the dipper switch hundreds of times every night. (The total
switching instances for a single night will be 1000 if we consider 8 hours of traveling and one encounter
every one minute and could exceed this number if one travels on roads with dense traffic).
The other reason includes a general tendency of paying more attention to steering control at the cost of
dipping during a critical vehicle meeting situation especially in the case of heavily loaded vehicles.
More reasons are the physiological and psychological states of a driver, which are influenced by a variety of
factors like working hours, economic issues and social factors, etc. Another major cause is the 'ego
problem',
which makes each one wait till the other person initiates dipping, which may not happen

Driver Vision and Glare

The human eye, one of the most complex organs and the greatest gift of nature, is equipped with a variety of
adaptation abilities.
Continuous change of vision from high light to low light and vise-versa causes heavy stress that results in
dizziness to the driver leads him to an accident
The physical dimensions of the object, the luminance reaching the object, its reflectance factor, its colour
contrast, its time constancy, its movement in space, etc. determine the nature and quantum of visual
information available. The actual perception is dependent on the physical condition and the perception
method of the viewer. The headlight systems of the vehicle, including the number and type of lamps, their
alignment, and their efficiency, all play a vital role in influencing the visibility of objects on the road.
The functional requirements on a lit road

If the road is lit, the visibility of the user will be aided by the road lighting and his dependence on the
vehicle lighting system will be drastically reduced. Consequently, when the automobile is traveling on a lit
road “enso” can maintain the headlamps in the dip beam. This functional behavior will also help other road
users like cyclists, rickshaws, and other non-motorized traffic.
“enso” is provided with the capability to assess road lighting status. This ability enables “enso” to
automatically change its operations in accordance with the road lighting status.

Some key Operational Features

Three modes of operation based on the speed of the vehicle:

• 0 – 20 km/h: Headlamps are maintained in ‘low beam’
• 20 – 70 km/h: Intelligent & automatic, rational beam selection according to the opposite
approaching glare. High beam – Low beam
• It maintains headlamps in the low beam on lit roads
• It maintains a high beam on a dark road free of opposing traffic
• It dips the lamps on sensing a headlamp light at 230 meters.
• It continues in the dip beam till crossing if the opposite vehicle dips
• It restores the main beam at 130 meters if the opposite vehicle does not dip
• It responds even to a two-wheeler/weak dip beam etc.
• Above 70 km/h: Headlamps are maintained in ‘high beam’ helps to see far ahead on high speeds.
• Any moment user driver can reverse the decision of “enso” (fully automatic assistance mode) by
changing the default low beam position to high beam position using the manual combination switch.
The selected beam will remain until the switch is brought back to the default low beam position
(fully automatic assistance mode)

“enso” consist of 4 major components

1. “enso” “SENSOR” – Photo pickup sensor with inbuilt GPS, which can be pasted using 3M VHB
double side sticker on the imaginary central line of the vehicle on the windscreen just under the
rearview mirror, which picks up the glare from opposite approaching vehicle headlight, it even
analyses the angle of incidence of the opposite beam and decides whether it is a High beam or a
Low beam, ambient light especially continuous streetlights, and speed of the vehicle and act
accordingly. Split second decision, all it takes 0.25 mil. sec.

2. “enso” waterproof “ADAPTOR” for 2 Lamp headlights or 4 Lamp headlights, which act in the
capacity of a processor and a commanding unit for switching circuit
