In Defense of Abortion
The topic on abolition and its permissibility has been “a thorn in the flesh” many
conservative groups, religious groups, and even different government organizations are always
against the fact that one can practice abortion. In the past, abortion has been seen as a great
immorality in the society. However, circumstances present a different viewpoint and challenge
every day. Many people in the present world have been coming up to support abortion but on a
special occasion. Many medical practitioners have argued that some of the conditions will only
require the termination of the pregnancy and this permissibility remains a topic to be argued on.
One of the major points presented on in the defense of abortion is that life of an embryo
begins later in life and thus abortion should be done early during the pregnancy. This is because
most of the early weeks of the pregnancy the fetus are usually in the developmental stages and
thus there is no human life ended. Therefore, the mothers should be allowed to carry out abortion
only and if done it is during the early stages of the pregnancy (Tatalovich). Moreover, it has been
“unfair” for the anti-abortionist to use the words such as “murder” or “killing” when describing
abortion that is carried out by a mother in the hospital. It should be carried out also under the
supervision of a licensed medical practitioner. This will ensure that there is a reduced fatality in
the mother’s life.

Another concept that has been in favor of abortion is to save the life of the mother. In
some situation, the life of the mother may be endangered by the pregnancy. Therefore, in proper
consultation with the doctors, the mother may be forced to terminate the pregnancy to save her
life. Some occasions mothers or even young girls have obtained unwanted pregnancies through
crimes such as rapes, incest or child abuse (Tatalovich). There is always guilt on the victims and
may end up not loving the child as required. Therefore, the mothers may be forced to carry out
an abortion. This is to give themselves an opportunity to heal from the pains that are associated
with the crimes (Fisher, et al., 637-641).
Some children are generally born with some serious genetic problems. These problems
may be further passed on to the next generation and without proper cure or control. A mother
with her husband may decide to carry out an abortion to prevent bring in a child with some
serious genetic problems. On the other hand, though may be viewed unethical some people have
carried out abortions to eliminate a child with some physical disability or handicap. This has,
however, received criticism from various human rights citing that allowing abortion because of a
disability may mean that the lives of the people are less worthwhile compared to those of
“normal” people. In this process, it means that there will be no child that is born with a disability
as all will be eliminate (Thomson, 39-54).
The government has been known to have serious challenges in the control of
populations. High populations mean that there will be the scarcity of the resources hence people
will struggle for the few available challenges. This has caused some of the governments to
consider abortion as a substitute for contraceptives (Thomson, 39-54). Some countries have
started engaging their citizens in considering abortion as an alternative method to contraceptives.
Some of the mothers who conceive their pregnancies may also carry out an abortion where they

lack mental capacity. This means that the mother has been diagnosed using this method to
continually work to maintain livings on the TVs and porch livelihood in killing would
completely uncalled for in the first place.
Abortion has been considered as one of the social wrongs ethically in many communities
but looking at both sides of the coin many people are taking over the mentality and it’s
continually being permissible under doctor’s advice. This may be due to health-related factors
such as the mental capacity of the mother, endangering the life of the mother or other factors
such as population control and pregnancies being obtained through crimes such as rapes.
