TALLY
1.1INTRODUCTION
Tally is an ERP accounting software package that is used to record day to day business data of a
company. The latest version of Tally is Tally ERP 9. Tally ERP 9 Software is one of the most
financial accounting systems used in India. For small and medium enterprises, it is complete
enterprise software.
The same software is acclaimed to be a financial accounting and inventory management tool
with the power of computers. This software can also be integrated with other business aspects
like sales, purchases, inventory management, and payroll management and many others.
This software is capable of storing multiple transactions of multiple accounts in a great detail.
Tally ERP 9 works on a double entry accounting system which greatly reduces the chances of
errors in entries and even helps in rectifying them.
Tally ERP 9 software also supports multiple languages which means that the accounts in this
particular version of the software can be maintained in the language or languages of your choice.
1.2 TALLY SCREEN COMPONENTS
After loading the Tally software, the Tally ERP.9startup screen displays on the screen as shown
above. The home screen of Tally ERP 9 contains the following components:
1. Title Bar:
Title Bar displays the Tally software that you are using.
2. Horizontal Button Bar:
It's used for choose Language[ALT+G], Control Centre[CTRL+K], Support Centre[CTRL+H],
Help[ALT+H], for Print[ATL+P], for Export[ALT+E], for E-Mail[ALT+M], for
Upload[ALT+O] and Tally Shop[CTRL+S].
3. Close Button:
The Close Button in the upper right corner functions similar to the use of ‘Esc’ in Tally. By click
on this button or ctrl+m, tally window closes
4. Main Area (Gateway of Tally):
The Main Area is separated into two:
1. Left-hand side area
2. Right-hand side area
The left-hand side provides information on Current Period, Current Date and List of Selected
Companies (Name of the company and the date when last entry has been made).
The right-hand side displays the Company Information menu such as Select a Company, Create a
Company, Backup a Company or Restore a Company and so on.
5. Task Bar:
It displays the task of Tally. Means it displays current position of your task.
6. Info Panel:
Information panel displays the tally version(CTRL+ATL+T), license details(CTRL+ALT+L)
and configuration(CTRL+ALT+F) details.
7. Calculation Area:
Calculation area(CTRL+N) will be used for calculation functions.
8. Buttons Tool Bar:
It is used to display the buttons that enable for immediate interaction with Tally. It can display
only the buttons that are applicable to the current task.

f). Data Backup and restore:
user can easily take data backups in portable storage devices or any storage device and restore
back within seconds.
g). Multilingual Capabilities:
Tally is also called multi-lingual tally software because Tally ERP 9 supports multi-languages. In
Tally, accounts can be maintained in one language, and reports can be viewed in other languages.
