PVT John W. Clark 1923-1944 - World War II 475th Infantry Battalion, had lived with his aunt in Witherbee.
2LT John B. Clements Jr. 1914-1944 - formerly of Port Henry, KIA; France on D-Day.
2LT John J. Cook 1920-1943 - of Port Henry, graduate Port Henry High School, starred in football, baseball,
and basketball, World War II U.S. Army, a flaming bomber who gave his life in a flaming bomber to save 3
conrades- "After members of the crew had been ordered to abandon the plane, it was found that the radio
operator had strapped his parachute to a seat. Although the burning plane was rapidly losing altitude and was
difficult to maneuver, Lieut. Cook remained at the controls to permit the release of the radio operator and to
allow other members of the crew to bail out. Lieut. Cook lost his life in the ensuing explosion and crash. The
heroic and unselfish action of Lieut. Cook in this emergency saved the lives of three of his comrades", KIA;
