Heath 88400 Modification: Gether in Tranceive But There Are Times, Usually

The document describes a modification to a Heath SB-400 radio that allows the transmitter and receiver to be operated independently by turning a switch. A rotary switch is installed to selectively connect the mixer output and receiver input either together for transceiver mode or separately for independent transmitter and receiver operation. Additional wiring changes the dial lights to indicate when the units are separated. The modification provides split operation with a simple switch instead of unplugging cables, while preventing accidental frequency mismatches between transmitter and receiver.
