Procedure: Case Analysis
Group 4: Childhood
A 7-year-old boy weighing 32kg is fond of eating French Fries and hotdogs during
snack time.
Evaluation
I. Compute for the Desirable Body Weight and Total Energy Requirement
For children aged 2-12 years old, this is the formula for the DBW:
DBW (kg) = (number of years x 2) + 8
= (7 x 2) + 8
= 14 + 8
DBW = 22 kg
22kg x 2.2lbs = 48.4lbs
Thus, the DBW of the 7 year-old boy is 22kg ≡ 48.4 lbs
For children aged 2-12 years old, this is the formula for the TEA:
TEA = 1000 + (100 x age in years)
= 1000 + (100 x 7)
= 1000 + 700
TEA = 1700 calories
Thus, the TEA of the 7 year-old boy is 1700 calories.
II. Calculate and plan the diet providing 3 meals and 2 snacks. Indicate your
answers in the table below.
Percentage Distribution:
CHO = 1600 cal x 0.55 = 880 cal
PRO = 1600 cal x 0.15 = 240 cal
FAT = 1600 cal x 0.30 = 480 cal
Gram Distribution:
CHO = 880 cal ÷ 4 kcal/g = 220 g
PRO = 240 cal ÷ 4 kcal/g = 60 g
FAT = 480 cal ÷ 9 kcal/g = 53.33 g
Diet Rx: 1600 calories - 220g CHO - 60g PRO - 53.33g FAT
