M-Series Sonars
Install ProViewer Software
Insert The CD
Run Setup
If prompted, click “Do not block”
Configure your PC network interface card
Set your PC Network IP address to 192.168.1.3
Set the Net Mask to 255.255.255.0
Bench Test the Sonar (Non-VDSL)
Connect the sonar as shown below, making sure the sonar cable is connected to the port labeled
“SONAR J1” and the standard Ethernet cable to the port labeled “PC J2” on the POE Box. Your sonar
and POE box may look different than the ones depicted below.
Apply AC power to the POE Box.
Start the ProViewer Software.
Once the Sonar is fully powered up (approximately 45 seconds) click the connect button:

Bench Test the Sonar (VDSL)
Connect the sonar as shown below. Your sonar and VDSL top side box may look different than the ones
depicted below.
Connect the RJ45 on the Sonar cable to the port labeled “SONAR J1” on the POE box.
Connect the RJ11 on the Sonar cable to the port labeled “SONAR” on the VDSL box.
Connect the Ethernet cable to the port labeled “PC” on the VDSL box and connect it to the
computer.
Apply AC power to the POE box and the VDSL box. The connection will be made in
approximately 60 seconds.
Start the ProViewer Software. Click the “Connect” icon to connect to the sonar.

Mount the Sonar
The sonar images like a camera out of the front of the nose cone. It should be mounted looking forward,
preferably on the same pan-and-tilt as the ROV’s main camera.
Note: Your sonar might look different than the picture shown but the same concept applies.
Switching Sonar Heads (for the M900/2250 sonar only)
When the Connect button is clicked, the ProViewer software will automatically search for, and list, any
sonars which are connected to the PC. If more than one sonar is present, or a sonar with multiple heads
is present, ProViewer displays the available sonar heads to connect to in the Sonar and Head dropdown
menu, respectively.
Sound Speed Calibration
If an image looks broken or misaligned, the most likely cause an incorrect Sound Speed value. To access
the Sound Speed slider from within ProViewer 4, right click anywhere in the imagery window.

Auto Intensity Controls
To access the extra controls un-check Auto Intensity as shown.
Shutdown
To avoid data loss, be sure to close and save any sonar data files before removing the sonar power.
When power cycling the sonar, be sure to allow at least 10 seconds of ‘off time’ before turning the sonar
back on.
