CITY OF CHARLESTON

HALLOWEEN
TRICK-OR-TREAT

OCTOBER 30, 2021

6 P.M. - 8 P.M.
Follow all guidance from the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, State of West Virginia
and Kanawha-Charleston Health Department to
ensure a safe and fun evening!
THE ONLY THING SCARY ABOUT HALLOWEEN
SHOULD BE THE COSTUMES!
While things are different this Halloween due to COVID-19,
there are several ways you can celebrate safely. Here are
some tips to stay safe this year.

Remember to follow all Centers for Disease Control and

Prevention, State of West Virginia and Kanawha-
Charleston Health Department guidelines.

HOMEOWNERS & RENTERS:

Do not hand out candy if you are sick.

Wear a face mask covering both your mouth and nose.

Use tape to mark 6 ft. lines in front of your home and leading to
your driveway or front door.

Position a distribution table between yourself and trick-or-treaters.

Distribute candy on a disinfected table to eliminate direct contact.

Wash hands often and have hand sanitizer available.

Consider handing out candy in an open space where distancing is

possible, rather than from the front door.
PARENTS & TRICK-OR-TREATERS:
Share with your children that this year may be different but it can
still be fun using alternative activities!

Stay home if you are sick.

Talk with children about social distancing guidelines and mask

wearing.

Trick-or-Treat with members of your family that live in your house.

Keep a 6 ft. distance from others.

Halloween masks are NOT a suitable substitute for a cloth mask.

Look for Halloween-themed cloth masks as an alternative.

Participate in "one way" trick-or-treating and guide children to

stay in one direction to ensure social distancing.

Avoid congregating in groups around houses.

Have hand sanitizer available and use it often.

Only go to houses with safety measures in place and inspect all

candy once you are home.
ALTERNATIVES TO TRICK-OR-TREAT:
Host a virtual Halloween party via an online meeting platform.

Have a neighborhood costume parade! It's an easy way to keep

space between children and they get to show off their costumes.

Turn your home into a Haunted House for your children.

Watch scary - or not so scary - movies at home! Depending on your

child's age, check out The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown,
Goosebumps, The Haunted Mansion or Beetlejuice.

Create a scavenger hunt at home. With each "clue" kids get right,
they find candy surprises! Turn out the lights and use a flashlight to
make the night a bit more "spooky."

Come together as a block and pre-make bags of candy for

neighborhood kids. Designate a pick-up location so that children
don't have to go door-to-door.

Have a pumpkin carving contest! Parents, post your photos on

social media so friends can vote for their favorites.

HOWEVER YOU CHOOSE TO SPEND YOUR

HALLOWEEN, STAY SAFE AND HAVE FUN!
