ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation is a group


of rooms, or building
which someone may live or
stay and is important to
any tourists who want to
travel to another
destination or on a trip as
you are always going to
need a place to stay such as
hotels, caravan parks, camp
sites et.
HOSPITALITY SECTOR
Hospitality refers to those establishments that serve the needs of the
tourists during their stay at certain points along their travel routes,
and at the final destination. 
HOTELS

-arethe primary tourist


accommodation. The
hotel industry, along
with the airlines, is
considered to be the
backbone of the
tourism industry. 
The Department of
Tourism (1992) defines a
hotel as a building, edifice
or premises or a
completely independent
part thereof, which is used
for the regular reception,
accommodation or lodging
of travelers and tourists,
and the provision of
services incidental for a
fee.
The Department of Tourism uses a system where hotels are classified into;
• Deluxe- equivalent to five-and four-star hotels in other countries
• First Class- three-stars
• Standard- two-stars
• Economy- one-star
• Zero-Star hotels are called tourist inns or lodges
OTHER ACCOMMODATION ESTABLISHMENTS
APARTELS
An apartel (apartment hotel)
is a building containing
several independent and
furnished or semi-furnished
apartments, for lease on a
long term basis. 
HOMESTAY
Homestay is simply
accommodation in a private
house. As such, homestay
offers something that other
facilities don't- the experience
of living with a local family,
giving the guest a glimpse of
local culture.
MOTEL
From the words "motorist
hotel" or "motor hotel",
motels are facilities that
offer economy-priced,
comfortable and clean
rooms without frills. 
PENSION
A pension is a private or
family-operated tourist boarding
house, or tourist lodging house
employing non-professional
helpers, containing independent
rooms for rent, with common
toilets, bathroom/showers,
living and dining rooms for rent,
and/or kitchens and where a
combination of board and
lodging may be provided. 
TOURIST INN
A tourist inn is a lodging
establishment which does not
meet the minimum
requirements of an economy
hotel. In other words, it's a
zero-star hotel. 
HOSTEL
A hostel is a low-cost
dormitory type
accommodation
targeted at budget
travelers, such as
students. 
ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES IN OTHER
COUNTRIES
CAPSULE HOTEL
When traveling to Japan, you
might want to check in at a
capsule hotel. In such hotels, the
guests sleep in a capsule
measuring roughly 3 ft.by 4ft.by
6ft. The capsules are usually
stacked, each equipped with
basic amenities, such as clock, a
small TV, air conditioning and
heater.
GER
If you have a chance to
go Mongolia, it would be
an adventure to stay at a
ger, the traditional
collapsible tent dwellings
of the nomadic herdsmen
in that country.  
JIMJILBANG
In Korea, budget
travelers can go to the
jimjilbang for around
seven dollars for a full
day. There are no beds in
here, you simply occupy
a spot or lie on a mat. 
MINSHUKU
A Minshuku refers to
small, wooden buildings
with Japanese style
rooms, the rooms being
smaller than in a ryokan. 
MINBAK
This is the Korean
equivalent of
Minshuku. 
PARADOR
Parador refers to lodging
facilities in Spain, which
were originally mansions,
palaces or castles. 
POUSADA
Pousadas are small-scale
home-style hotels that are
found in Portugal and
former Portuguese
territories. 
RYOKAN
For the well-heeled traveler,
there is the pricier ryokan.
The guests sleeps on futon on
the floor, eat Japanese meals,
bathe in the ofuro (bath tub),
and wear kimono. 
RESORTS
A resort is defined by the
Department of Tourism as "any
place with pleasant environment
and atmosphere conducive to
comfort, healthful relaxation and
rest, offering food, sleeping
accommodations and recreational
facilities to the public for a fee or
remuneration."
RESORT CONCEPTS

ALL-INCLUSIVE- The
all-inclusive concept refers to
a holiday in which virtually
everything is included in the
prepaid price. It includes
hotel, airport transfers, drinks,
sports, entertainment, even
government taxes and tips. 
ECO-RESORT
An eco-resort is a resort that
follows ecotourism principles.
It is recognizable by its use of
indigenous architecture and
locally available materials for
buildings, food, and labor
requirements. 
TOWN RESORT
A town resort is a town or
city that is focused on resort
activities and contains hotels
and other types of tourist
facilities and services. Town
resorts are usually oriented to
a natural or man-made
feature such as beach, hot
springs, lake, mountain,
archaeological or pilgrimage
site. 
RETREAT RESORT

It is an integrated resort that


is small-scale, of high quality
and located far enough from
the city. It normally caters to
an elite clientele looking for a
quiet, isolated vacation
environment.
TIMESHARE
It refers to the multiple ownership
of holiday accommodation units.
Timeshare is like buying holiday
accommodation in advance with
the purchaser paying a capital sum
to get the timeshare, and annual
contributions for the maintenance
of the property.
