to be a master of martial arts or gymnastics.

In fact, my brother and I never took gymnastics or martial arts before we got into
parkour.

We only had experience in regular sports like cross country and soccer.

Your Body Was Naturally Designed For This!


Parkour, at it's core, is really all about developing your bodies natural
movements.

These are all simple movements that your body was designed to perform... crawling,
running, jumping, climbing, and vaulting.

This why parkour is so scalable and great for a wide range of people, regardless of
current physical level or experience.

This is also why average men & women, with no prior experience, can quickly develop
these moves when given the right training and tutorials.

Parkour, when done correctly, can be one of the best workouts for building
coordination, strength, mobility, and over all athleticism.

It can be a fun way to cut fat and stay fit for all ages.

However, it is KEY that you start small and gradually build up to more advanced
workouts and moves as you get stronger and more confident.

The BIG problem is that most people don't know the right ways to train or how to
build into the moves properly. This leads to a lot of mistakes, frustration, & even
injury.

THE 3 BEGINNER MISTAKES

Mistake #1 Wrong Workouts:


One of the most crucial parts of your training will be your workouts.

Most beginners perform the wrong workouts or don't workout at all.

They believe that all they need to do is train the parkour moves themselves and
this will be enough.

Yes, some people who are already athletes or have a background in other sports &
disciplines at first can get away with "just training the moves".

However, even these guys will lose out to the ones who are working out and
conditioning properly.

When I trained with the Yamakasi (First Parkour Group From France), they told us
something I would never forget.
They said that parkour is 80% conditioning & 20% skills.

Meaning, that most of your training should be focused on building your foundation
of strength, flexibility, speed, & stamina and then the rest on learning the
techniques and cool moves.

Once you have developed this base of athleticism, the parkour moves will come much
easier and faster.

So what workouts should you do?

First, avoid the weight room or the typical body building workouts. Most of these
are not that beneficial for parkour. You'll just be getting big inefficient muscles
that usually lead to tight muscles, imbalances, and poor coordination.

You'll want to focus on bodyweight workouts that build chains of movements.

These are workouts that incorporate multiple muscle groups working together.
Usually these will also involve a lot of core stabilization.

Use exercises such as pull ups, push ups, dips, squats, squat jumps, hollow holds,
etc... most importantly you'll want to incorporate the primal movements such as QM,
Crab, Wall Top Outs, Hand Stands, and other key exercises I'll be talking about
later in our guide.

FYI: This will be very important for longevity. This is how people can train
parkour well into their 40s, 50s, and even 70s.

Mistake #2 Bad Alignment:


If you want to stay injury free, experience longevity, & avoid chronic injuries...
then you will want to aim for perfect alignment with all of your workouts and
parkour moves.

Proper alignment means to use the structure of your joints in the most efficient
and safest way possible. This gives you a lot more strength, saves energy, and
prevents injury.

A lot of beginners do not even think about this.

They perform a jump or move and just hope their body hits the correct position.

This is just begging for an injury.

What's worse is that most of the time you won't even experience pain directly after
performing a move with bad alignment. It will show up years later with chronic
joint pain or worse the joint will blow out completely when it's finally passed
it's breaking point.

Your bones, muscles, and joints are all designed to support your weight and perform
movements.

However, when we perform movements over and over with bad form and alignment, this
puts unneeded strain on our joints and muscles.

Good alignment will also be key if you are a beginner and lack strength.

By using your body's structure properly, you can support a lot more weight without
having to use as much strength.

Mistake #3 No Goals Or Direction:


The biggest mistake beginners make is that they have no goals or direction in their
training.

They do not know what to do, so they feel awkward or do not know what to train.
This leads to a lot of of wasted time, frustration, and little to no progress.

If you want to learn parkour and you want to do it fast, you need to set up a
training schedule for yourself and set some simple goals to get started.

You will need to train at least 3 days a week. You will need to combine the right
amount of conditioning with the right amount of skills. You will need to be
consistent.

If you expect to learn all of the moves in your first few days... then you are
greatly mistaken.

It will takes weeks, months, and even years for some of us to reach mastery.

However, if you train safe, smart, and stay dedicated... you will see improvements
each week until eventually you will reach mastery.
