Rationale
3. The COVID-19 pandemic outbreak has affected a lot of livelihood throughout the world, infecting millions of people which forced
every country to impose lockdowns, travelling bans as well as measures of social distancing in order to refrain the transmission
of the virus. This crisis caused massive changes in the daily lives of people. Even inside and outside the household, changes in
activities occurred and grew inevitable particularly in recreational activities with the family.
On Last year on March 12, 2020, due to the rise of positive COVID-19 cases BU-CBEM upon further notice cancelled
its classes, and it was assumed that the cancellation of classes will only last up to two weeks, but well over a year later
and there is little progress from the usual norm of following strict health protocols to avoid the spreading of the virus,
which has caused an immense change on people's daily routines before the pandemic had ensued.
4. Even inside and outside the household, changes in activities occurred and grew inevitable particularly in
recreational activities with the family.
5. With these recreational activities, it gives them a sense of relief from their stress that they are coping with in their daily lives, but
because of the COVID-19 pandemic their outdoor activities became limited due to the strict health protocols that have been
implemented in order to avoid the spreading of the virus.
In our study, we considered that recreational activities help them to cope up with the unexpected changes in their
daily lives. But we all know that Filipinos are resilient, with a year of living in this situation, people have begun to find
ways in which to navigate around the communities safely and efficiently to keep themselves healthy physically and
mentally in this pandemic.
The pandemic has brought forth extreme and unfamiliar challenges to couples, families, businesses and communities,
especially individuals living within these social groupings. (Fraenkel, 2001a, 2002).
6. Adjusting with this “new normal” is quite stressful which can increase the anxiety levels of a person due to a number of health
protocols that are being implemented such as staying at home in accordance to social distancing. It is natural to feel stress in a
circumstance like this, that’s why it is important to unwind along the family during this pandemic.
7. Drastic changes were also existent in different sectors of the industry which greatly affected the economy when the pandemic
hit every country and compelled them to enforce restrictions in every movement in a community to prevent the widespread
spread of the virus. Generating information, subsequently on familial recreations management may give useful data on how
families are coping up with the changes in their leisure activities in their homes and be able to relate and consider the impact in
businesses.
Haleem et al (2020) appears that COVID – 19 pandemic has influenced day-to-day life and is declining the worldwide
economy. The economic impacts of COVID – 19 pandemic include: the narrowing of the manufacturing of basic goods, disturbance
of the supply chain of products, losses in national and international commerce, destitute cash stream within the market, significant
diminishing within the revenue growth while the social consequences contain the cancellation or delay of large – scale sports and
competitions, disturbance of celebration of social, religious and different occasions, social distancing with peers and family
individuals. Some people are managing themselves from this disease through the implementation of some practices that can help
them on how to take care of their well - beings properly in order to maintain and improve their immune system to combat the
COVID - 19.
The pandemic resulted in mass unemployment, schools were closed for several months, and businesses are closing down
which might lead to an increase in chronic stress, anxiety, depression, and overall rise in suicides. It affects the mental health,
physical health, and physiological health that causes to deteriorate the person’s well-being because of these unexpected changes
during this pandemic.
This certainly negatively affected the financial conditions of small-business as well as large-business companies. It also
affected self-employed workers who depended on daily labor to make a living. To survive, not only physically but also financially,
people had to change their life-style and spend money more carefully when the pandemic hits their region. The quarantine affected
not only the financial conditions of people, it also largely affected human relationships. People avoided each other because of the
fear of contracting the virus. But during the pandemic, this provided them with a special time for themselves and their families,
some managed to cope up with their family through recreational activities. With these kinds of activities, it helps them to lessen their
stress and anxiety because of the impacts of the COVID – 19 and they also started to take care of their health properly. The
quarantine has provided a great opportunity for people to rethink and re-evaluate many decisions they have already made in order
to survive in these several months of lockdown in every region in the country to lessen the exposure of the people to the virus.
This time of crisis is generating stress throughout the whole population. Apart from physical suffering, it is not uncommon for
confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 to suffer from enormous psychological pressure and other health-related problems.
Reported and suspected COVID-19 patients should be afraid of serious illness and contagion. Therefore, they may experience
loneliness, denial, anxiety, insomnia, depression, and despair, which may lower treatment adherence. Due to confusion about their
health status, reported isolated cases can suffer from anxiety and develop obsessive compulsive symptoms, such as frequent
temperature checks and disinfection. Further, strict quarantine and mandatory contact tracing policy by health authorities could
cause societal rejection, financial loss, discrimination, and stigmatization (Chaurasia et al 2020).

11. The COVID-19 pandemic presents not only a global health crisis but has also disrupted the daily lives of people around the
world. From a leisure perspective, urban outdoor enthusiasts are one group particularly impacted by the pandemic and the
subsequent institutional response. Stay-at-home orders and physical distancing recommendations serve as potential inhibitors to
outdoor recreation activities central to the lifestyles and wellbeing of outdoor enthusiasts. In urban areas, where these orders and
recommendations are most restrictive, the potential impacts on recreation behavior are most consequential (Rice, W. L., et. al.
2020). this passage presents an example on how the more proactive demographic are people are susceptible to be more
greatly affected by the impact of Covid 19 lockdown. Most of the people in this demographic fare from urban areas.
12. Stress is the body's natural response to a perceived threat that may result in anxiety, discomfort, emotional tension, and
difficulty adjusting (Fink, 2016 ). The growing interest in stress over the past five decades is attributed to its role in the etiology of
chronic illnesses and mental health disorders. With the COVID-19 pandemic, fear of infection and transmission, social isolation
due to lockdown restrictions, and the uncertainty of events have led to stress - related reactions such as changes in
concentration, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, reduced productivity, and interpersonal conflicts (Vinkers et al., 2020). This tells us
how people's mental well being are more at risk than that of the physical one.
13. Arnado and Bayod (2020) study revealed some coping strategies amid the pandemic. These are: optimism, strong family
relation and engagement to usual activities. Being an optimist despite pandemic can lead to finding hope one needs to adapt to this
“new normal” time until the virus is cleared out. Moreover, building strong family relationships can help to cope up whenever one
feels alone. You can do leisure activities with your family such as watching movies. Engagement to usual activities can greatly
reduce mental health difficulties as you alleviate your boredom and do 16 what you like. One can also develop skills and expand
activity scope in order to have vast choices when they are bored doing the same thing over and over again.

Chin M., et al (2020) studied the changes in family life and relationships during the COVID-19 pandemic and their
associations with perceived stress. The study explores how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed family life and relationships as
well as how these changes affect perceived stress among married men and women. The study also examined the changes in
family time use, household work, child care, leisure activities, income and expenditures along with relationships between spouses
and children.
Due to the pandemic crisis, leisure activities have changed toward more time watching TV or online media and playing
online games and less time on outdoor activities, shopping, and meeting friends. Furthermore, the study found that negative
changes in child care and in relationships with children did not affect stress among married parents with children in elementary or
secondary school. Relationship with spouses and children has strengthened due to the lockdown implemented by the national
government.
14. According to Leal, Trinidad Jr. and Burt, Daniel J. (2021), a significant shift in behavior of college students was seen from
before and during the COVID-19 lockdown. Although they expected some categories to have a significant change, the majority of
categories demonstrated considerable amounts of alterations in behavior. Interpretation of these results determined that COVID-19
lockdowns may serve to place more active recreation activities at risk, but there is a propensity for individuals to use the time wisely
and successfully in regards to certain health and school behaviors. The effect of the pandemic is not the same for everyone
because of different behaviors and coping attitudes of individuals.
It says here that the most prevalent effects observed before and during the pandemic was in the aspect of behavior.
Lockdown denotes the value of recreation however, it had also taught a degree of discipline amongst individuals in
learning how to spend their time mindfully and wisely. Effects may differ with everyone since each individual differ in
behavior and coping mechanisms.
15. Physical activity and exercise is known to help combat chronic diseases that can affect mental and physical health by boosting
the human’s immune system (Jimenez-Pavon et al., 2020; Siordia, 2020). However, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced individuals
to quarantine, isolate, social distance, and change their lifestyle, causing a decrease in physical activity by 32% in individuals who
had regularly performed exercise before (Meyer et al., 2020). College students are a unique population of study, because most
universities converted to virtual format and students were advised to stay away from campus according to Ramirez, Omar and
Bernhardt, Vipa (2021).
The Covid-19 pandemic has a huge impact on the exercise habit of the majority of college students, some changes
are for the better and most of it are for the worse. Some of them are experiencing anxiety and are having hard time to
adapt to the changes that were caused by the pandemic. The government and public health authorities should prioritize
the prevention and mental health suffering of not only college students, but other people as well. Encouraging the
maintenance of physical activity during the COVID-19 pandemic as it is said to be beneficial.
16. The study of Güzel, Pinar et. al (2020) "Know-How" to Spend Time in Home Isolation during COVID-19; Restrictions and
Recreational Activities" identify the emotional, physical, psychological, and social states of individuals who had to stay home for a
while due to the measures taken to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and to determine what kind of recreational
activities they preferred during this period. The study suggested that it is necessary to resort to recreational activities in order to
both reduce the spreading effect of the virus in isolation at home and to overcome this process with the least negative impact, and
individual and institutional efforts should be made for this.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a massive uproar as it has affected millions of lives around the world.
Lockdown was implemented by the national government as suggested by the WHO organization to minimize the
spreading of the virus. It has been determined that the lives of individuals staying home due to coronavirus are affected
by anxiety and stress, their physical mobility and physical activity were limited. Individuals isolated at home in this
challenging process stated that they could lessen the psychological, physical, and socio-cultural effects of COVID-19 with
recreational activities.

Synthesis
The related literature and studies focuses on the previous studies about the adaptive changes in recreational activities in a
household in their everyday lives during the pandemic. It is discovered that every lifestyle of the people before the pandemic has
been seriously affected which caused a massive distortion in the economy and even the overall health of the people. It is also
included in the literature and studies on how every family is coping up with the stressors that are present during the pandemic in
their lives through the recreational activities within the households to boost their health and also conducting online businesses that
might help them financially in this crisis.
Gap to be bridged by the study
The present researchers focused on the adaptive changes in familial recreation management during the COVID-19
pandemic. The present study will be conducted among Bicol University students, particularly the CE students. Thus, this study aims
to have a better understanding about the subject as well as the scope of changes in familial recreation management among the
Bicol University - CE students.

Each theory has its importance and purpose to better understand global finance. International finance theories are useful
tools for determining exchange rates, comparing inflation rates, deciding whether to invest in international debt securities,
determining the economic status of other countries, and judging foreign markets. It will also help individuals and investors to make
better and smarter decisions. The knowledge of these theories can help to understand more global finance transactions by
explaining various scenarios and terminologies.
