Second Quarter Project: Focus Interview

Task:
Building on the first quarter project, the second quarter project consists of an oral interview. You
will assume the identity of your world history person and answer questions related to various
topics in a way that you feel best represents the views of your person.

Procedure:
1. Review your source materials, rough draft, and first quarter project.
2. Research additional sources and readings.
3. Prepare a list of important background information about your person using the chart
and categories provided. Add any additional information that you feel would be helpful
to the task. The chart will be collected and assessed.
4. Prepare for the interview day by brainstorming with classmates possible questions that
might be asked.
5. Find materials to use for a costume or props. Make sure all materials are school
appropriate and don’t forget to bring them the day of your interview. This will also be a
part of your assessment.

Interview:
The interview will take place in a “round table” discussion format. Be prepared to introduce
yourself and offer closing comments. You will not be given the questions ahead of time. The
moderator (SSII teacher) will conduct the discussions by asking questions specific to the list you
have prepared. You should be able to discuss who you are and your opinions about the various
topics that reflect those of your world history figure. You should speak in first person. The
individual Social Studies II teachers will decide the breakdown of the groups. Possible groups
include students of the same time period, similar backgrounds, etc….

Assessment:
You will be assessed on how well you can articulate your answers to the questions and apply
the point of view of your world history person. Your preparedness for the interview must be
apparent. See rubric for details.
