Starts initial practice of violin on the mentoring, support and encouragement of his father, Toma
Caminschi. His further refinements on playing this instrument were coached by Dan Petrescu
up until 1983. At this time he transitions to playing guitar, the instrument that's been the object
of his musical fascination to date.
His first guitar instructor was George Stanescu. Their friendship still lasts to the day. George
has left his own legacy with Eugen: landmarks of musical excellence like Jimmy Hendrix, Led
Zeppelin and Rolling Stones. A first result of George's influence ended up with Eugen starting
up the "Pure and Simple" band during his high school years. The band activated in Buzau,
Eugen's hometown, until 1988.
Moving to Bucharest to pursue his college education, Eugen got exposed to broader horizons in
the musical world. His first on-stage experience was at "You & Me", the first blues club in the
country. Eugen's participation in the Wednesday jam sessions, known as "Black Cat Bone"
blues shows, were accompanied by already well-known musicians such as: A.G.Weinberger,
Sorin Chifiriuc,Mugurel Vrabete,Florin Ionescu,Catalin Rotaru, and Corneliu Stroe.
It seems now that these gatherings were meant to be a cornerstone in Eugen's musical career.
Soon after, he was invited by Sorin Chifiriuc to join the "Electric Red Roosters" band. Most
notably, the band has opened D. Palmer's symphonic rock concert at Sala Polivalenta, and
Jimmy Smith's performance at "Cerbul de aur". Two years later he leaves the "Electric Red
Roosters" to start up, together with the bass guitarist Mugur Diaconescu, a blues band called
the "Black Cat". Their first live recording was a premiere of its kind for Romania. The album is
named "Live in Laptaria lui Enache", and it was recorded on September 30th, 1999. In addition
to "classical" blues songs that were interpreted in a personal manner, the album contains the
songs "Lucky Guy" and "Need a Friend". These two songs were authored in exclusivity by
Eugen. Performing invitees at "Black Cat" recordings were Berti Barbera and Stefan
Adumitroaie, two artists that followed along with their collaboration at several other blues
concerts to come.
Within the same time frame, Eugen worked together with A.G.Weinberger,Mugurel Vrabete and
Florin Ionescu as part of the band known as "Weinberger Blues Machine". The collaboration
with "Weinberger Blues Machine" ended up with various blues recitals. The most outstanding
act would be the blues concert dedicated to Bill Clinton's visit to Romania. Eugen was also
associated with the recording sessions of the "Standard weinberger" album.
After a 7 year stint in the blues area, Eugen changes his style and musical repertoire. He starts
a first collaboration with Mircea Vintila at the recordings of the "Madama de Pica" album. This
puts him back in contact with Mugurel Vrabete, now executive producer for the project. Two
months after the album was launched, Eugen starts playing guitar together with "Vama veche"
band during the "Povestea merge mai departe", a tour of 15 concerts. Fruit of this labor were
the 3 albums: "Nu ne mai trageti pe dreapta" in 2001, "Am sa ma intorc barbat" in 2002, and
"Best of Vama Veche" in 2003. The launches of the albums were followed up by concerts at
"Cerbul de aur"(2003), and the series "Am sa ma intorc barbat" held at Teatrul National.
The electric guitar elements of all songs authored or interpreted during the above mentioned
associations retain a certain flavor of Eugen's propensity and admiration for blues. Moreover,
excerpts of his loyalty to this genre are his participation with the Radio Big band at the "Let the
good times roll" in 2002, and his presence in the "Big Mamou" blues band together with Florin
Ochescu, Gelu Ionescu,Berti Barbera,Florin Barbu and Sorin Pupe Tanase. Along this line,
Eugen recorded "Carmen, Mihaela, Monica (si Dana)" and "La mine-n cintec", two songs
interpreted on slide guitar that are part of Alexandru Andries' "Bules expert" album.
A separate collaboration with Mircea Vintila, the "Toti intro barca" album, brings Eugen in
contact with Gelu Ionescu and Mugurel Vrabete. Aside from his great input in the orchestration
of the first 10 songs, Eugen brought two personally authored songs: "Poveste fara sfirsit" and
"Tulburator" on Alexandru Andries' lyrics.
Now a permanent member of the "Vama Veche" band, Eugen's name shows on the covers of
albums such as: Vama Veche – Live la Sala Palatului [2005] , Vama Veche – Fericire in rate
(First Edition) [2006] ,Vama Veche – Fericire in rate (Second Edition) [2006]
September 5th, 2006, Eugen founds together with Tudor Chirila a new band by the name
"Vama". June 2008, the first album of "Vama", bearing the same name with the band, is
launched thanks to the additional merit of Raul Kusack – keyboards, Dan Opris- bass guitar
and Lucian “Clopo” Cioarga –drums. The pinnacle of their recognition would be the concert
held at "Cerbul de Aur" in 2009, an apparition broadcasted on the national television.
Never leaving his fascination for blues, Eugen performs a series of concerts held in Bucharest
and other locations in the country with the band known as "Blues cafe". A name with known
resonance in mostly in Bucharest, Eugen found himself invited and made intimately familiar to
the audiences of reputable clubs like Big Mammou and Jukebox.
At the time being, aside from his activity with "Vama", Eugen works on a new album,
"Blackjack". His partners in crime on this new blues escapade are Mugurel Diaconescu, Gelu
Ionescu, Bogdan Nagy and Lucian “Clopo” Cioarga. "Ultima tiger", a song from the "Blackjack"
album has obtained certain notoriety on numerous radio stations in Romania.
