CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
This chapter gives an overview of what the business is all about. It highlights Bola de
Surpresa's description or background and location of the business. Furthermore, the
owners will discuss the reasons behind on creating this business venture.
Description of the Business
Consumer's tastes and preferences change easily when it comes to food; the
reason why there are bunch of new recipes or food innovations in the market. The team
noticed that some consumers are interested in other countries' food especially the
country Japan, since they have been promoting their culture and food through their
infamous Manga and Anime which gain people’s interests about their cuisine. We came
up with our 'Bola de Sorpresa' which means Ball of Surprise, it is a rice ball with a
famous Filipino dish inside the rice and wrapped with a dried seaweed sheet to secure
the rice ball, this is inspired by the Japanese food Onigiri.
This type of rice ball is originally from Japan which is their comfort food, it is
called Onigiri which means rice ball in Japanese, it is a steamed rice formed like a ball,
triangular shape or even cylinder shape and it is wrapped with nori or dried seaweed it
is commonly stuffed with tuna and mayo, or sha-ke a salted salmon.
Bola de Sorpresa is made with a unique blend of flavors, a Filipino meal with a
touch of Japanese flavor, perfect for those who loves to eat Japanese food and of
course Filipino dishes. Our rice balls offer different flavors, we have Chicken Adobo,
Chicken Barbecue and Chicken Sisig.Our Bola de Sorpresa is passionately made for
everyone for them to have an easy and handy meal, also to bring joy and smiles to our
customers.
Location of the Business
In today’s highly competitive environment we have to make sure our product will
leave a mark on everyone’s heart, so we choose to positioned our Bola de Sorpresa
outlet in a crowded place, preferably in one of the prominent shopping mall in General
Santos City, which is in front of SM mall to assure that our product will be noticed. The
reason why we want to sell in the said location is that a lot of people go to this place just
to eat street foods so it's easy for people to see our stall/products. Aside from that, it is
also a good location because it is easy to be found. If you’re near the city you can ride a
tricycle for only 10 pesos. You are heading east on Pres. Jose P. Laurel Avenue
towards Roxas East Avenue then if you reach 67m turn left onto Santiago Boulevard
after 29m turn right in 0.3km turn right. Luckily if there is no traffic you will get there in
less than 5 minutes. Below is the figure of the map which shows the location of where
the business will be established.

Strengths
• The product is easy to make. The product is easy to make since it’s only a rice
ball stuffed with a Filipino dish, it would be easy to prepare since there are
available molders, even without it there are also materials that can be used to
mold the rice, or even without those materials the rice ball can still be molded
using both hands. For the filling it’s also easy to prepare since all of them are
Filipino dishes which has a simple procedure too.
• Excellent customer service. Our Company has no experience in this venture
since we’re new but we ensure the customer that well offer the best service we
can to satisfy them and also to stand our mission to surprise them with our
service and our products.
• Food on the go. These rice balls are specially made to be an easy to eat food,
Bola de Sorpresa are molded into shapes to prevent them from spilling
everywhere. Bola de Sorpresa can also be eaten anywhere even without a chair
and table available. This can also be stored and will not spoil easily, it can be
heated using a microwave if preferred to eat warm.
Weaknesses
• Increase price of the ingredients. At this time price have been increasing
especially raw materials. The main ingredients for our product are rice and
chicken and these raw materials recently had a price increase in the market.
And with that it would immensely affect the business.
• New in the business. The business owners are not experienced in business
and it is their first time to be in this field. There is no background knowledge
or skills to be able to handle this business effectively, presumably our
success rate for this business are low.
• Limited product availability. We are new in the business field we will
somehow experiment or measure first if how many pieces we should
make/stock in a day so that the food will not be wasted. And also to
experiment what flavor does the customers likes and if that flavor should have
more stocks or not, also to identify if we should change the flavor or have
more flavors.
Opportunities
• Food trend. There are a lot of people especially teens who are into different
cultures and cuisine. It is a great advantage and opportunity for us to sell a
product that features the other country’s culture and cuisine with a touch of
our culture too, since there are a lot of people too who loves our own cuisine.
• Open a new branch. Having a new branch could be great to let other people
who could not go to the main branch of this business experience this food,
and also to give opportunities to those people who are finding a job, our
business is open to welcome people who are willing to do the job.
• Having new flavors or variety. The more flavors we have, the more it can
encourage customers to buy our products because most of the people these
days they want to try or experience something new, and there still a lot of
Filipino dishes that we can add for the variety that the customers could
possibly like.
Threats
• Consumer’s Choice. There are products that are somewhat similar to this
product, and is much affordable than our product. The consumers might
prefer those products over the product that we offer or sell.
• Pandemic. We are now in the middle of the pandemic, the reason why
people rarely go out and go to some places, this would be a threat to the
business since potential customers reduces. Our business does not offer
delivery, also a reason for potential customers to reduce.
• Competitors in the business. Our business location is in front of a street
food carts and beside a convenience store so there are a lot of competitors
for our business. Possibly, the consumers might prefer street food or food
and beverages from a convenience store over a rice ball that we offer.
CHAPTER III
MARKETING PLAN
This chapter describes the necessary elements that should be considered before
putting up the business. It highlights the product (brand name, feature, style, label,
quality, labeling, and packaging), place (distribution channel), price (pricing strategy and
structure), and promotion (advertising, public relations, personal selling, sales
promotion, and direct marketing).
3.1. Product
In entrepreneurship, a well planned and prepared product is highly important.
Well prepared products are a good way to attract customers, and it has a lot of
potentials if released in the market especially with clean preparations and attractive
packaging.
3.1.1 Brand Name
Businesses has their own brand names for their products to be identified in the
market especially consumers. The decided name for the venture decided by all of the
group members is Surprice Company. The name of the product is Bola De Sorpresa.
The brand theme used by our venture will surely attract the customers’ attention
and will find the name attractive and adorable. The Surprice Company and the Bola De
Sorpresa will attract the customers because of the unique name and easy to pronounce
and remember. They will be able to easily recognize our product for it was innovated to
have the taste of the Japanese Rice Ball but with our Filipino dishes inside, which will
surely surprise the customers.
3.1.2. Product and Service Feature
Bola de Sorpresa is a type of onigiri that originated in Japan that we adopted
here in the Philippines. In Japan they put salted salmon, Japanese pickled plum,
simmered kombu seaweed and many more, but since these types of foods or
ingredients are not known here in the Philippines, we thought that why not make onigiri
rice balls with Filipino dishes in it. So in our Bola de Sorpresa instead of putting
unfamiliar dishes inside of it, we put chicken adobo, chicken barbeque, and chicken
sisig which are a dish that are known here in the Philippines and that’s what makes our
product different and unique.
The Philippines is known as a country who can adopt cultures from different
countries easily so Bola de Sorpresa is fit for those customers who want to try the onigiri
that is found in Japan that they can see in the movies. A lot of Filipinos want to visit
Japan but cannot afford it but by tasting our Bola de Sorpresa they can know what
Japanese feels when they eat onigiri.
And instead of wrapping it with plastic just like the onigiri, we have decided to
wrap Bola de Sorpresa with soy wax paper, because soy wax paper is coated with a
wax made from soybeans instead of paraffin. Soybean wax is clean, safe, non-toxic and
biodegradable. When customers buy our product it can make them experience the
#JapanFeels they are full and they help in maintaining our environment clean.
3.1.3. Product and Service Styles
The Bola de Sorpresa is a simple table style, in the table together with the
spices, tissue, toothpick, and menu book. Customers enter our store greeted by the
guard with a smile on their faces seated on a comfortable and fluffy sit, Hugged by the
cold air from the air conditioner, assisted by the waiter's immediately to get their orders,
serve the food as soon as possible, with its complete order and nice plating. And with its
affordable price, it would surely make the customers go back in our store. As soon as
they stand up, the workers quickly clean the table for the next customer.
3.1.4. Product and Service Quality
Bola de Sorpresa ensures the quality of its product and service. It exclusively use
fresh and great quality ingredients. It only uses high-quality and fresh ingredients. The
products are constantly thoroughly controlled for consistency. The team ensures that
our goods are homemade for the esteemed consumer. The company also values
cleanliness and sanitation, particularly when preparing goods, for its employees to
practice good hygiene. This guarantees that the foods are free of spoilage and that
consumers do not have adverse health effects.
3.1.5. Product Labeling
The packaging contains the product's name, the flavors inside, the manufacturing
date, and the expiry date, how to properly dispose the packaging, and also the
ingredients used for the product.

The packaging of the "Onigiri" product is an important feature of the food
industry. It became an effective method of attracting consumers and protecting the item,
which was served with prime consistency, cleanliness, and satisfaction both before and
after they were in the hands of the intended customers.
The packaging for the product is one-of-a-kind and it was designed by the
entrepreneurs themselves. In this market, the corporation discovered that the packaging
is both environmentally safe and cost-effective. The company used paper products for
packaging in order to avoid damaging the environment and since it’s easy to dispose
since it’s made of paper and there are available trash bins inside and outside the store.
3.1.6. Product Packaging
The packaging of our product is made with the same theme as our product itself,
simple yet appealing. The packaging made simple for the sake of giving convenience to
our customers, as it can easily be prepared by us just like our product, yet, it is
appealing because as you can see in the figure, it is uniquely made out of cute designs,
colors, and the size of the packaging representing "cute" itself, by this it would be an
Instagram worthy post or story, and a gift worthy just like the name of our product, "Bola
De Sorpresa" that portrays surprises, attracting the costumers to buy our unique
product. We considered the usage of paper to our packaging as it is both eco-friendly
and can protect our product maintain its shape and freshness. The nutritional facts, the
biodegradable sign and our products name are labeled outside the packaging, to inform
our customers the basic information about our product.

3.2. Place
The place is the stage where goals are made available to consumers and since
the location of our business is located in front of SM Mall we guarantee that our product
will be noticed because it is a crowded place. In order for the business to be much
efficient, it is important to consider the place where you want to build your business. It
includes the availability of your raw materials, the climate, and especially the number of
our customers. By identifying it, this will help us to easily utilize the place where our
business is located to make goods available for use or consumption to the business
users and consumers also.

Distribution Channel
The Distribution Channel is the chain of business or intermediaries through which
goods or services pass until it reaches the customer. The Distribution Channel also
consists of two parts which are the Direct Marketing Channel and the Indirect Marketing
Channel but the distribution channel of our business venture which is the Bola De
Sorpresa we will be using the Direct Channel. The reason for the transfer or the
movement of the goods and services of Direct Marketing Channel is simply from the
manufacturer to the final user which is the customer. That our product will not go to any
marketing intermediaries since the customer needs to consume it after they received
the product, so they can make the most of it.
