Social Issues

This painting depicts Filipino workers who are considered the new heroes due to their hard work and sacrifices for the country. It shows appreciation for the workers and the important role they play through their labor and dedication. A tribute is shown as the only way to repay them for their contributions. The second painting illustrates a welga, or strike, performed by overseas Filipino workers to protest maltreatment and deaths experienced at the hands of bosses and superiors. As commonly mistreated workers, the OFWs had the right to stage a welga in order to fight for better treatment and working conditions.
