Methodology

The document discusses the methodology used in a study exploring the correlation between frequency of synchronous classes and mental health of students. The study will use a quantitative correlational research design with a random sample of 197 students out of a population of 400. A survey will be used to collect data and determine if a significant relationship exists between the variables.

METHODOLOGY

This chapter will discuss the overall methodology in conducting the study. This is a
complete and detailed presentation of the different statistical tools that will be used to
interpret the data, and the different procedures in gathering the data which are vital in
conducting a correlational research.
3.0 Research Design
Quantitative method of research will be used in this study to explore the
correlation between frequency of synchronous classes and mental of UPIS students.
Nevertheless, to clearly illustrate and elaborate the variables, the frequency of
synchronous classes and the state of mental health of UPIS high school students,
correlational research design shall be used. This will pave way for the researchers to
determine whether a significant relationship exists between the two aforementioned
variables.
3.1 Sampling Design and Respondents
In determining the respondents of the study, probability technique, specifically
simple random sampling, is used. This sampling design is integral in the success of the
research as each student from UPIS high school department has an equal probability of
being chosen. A sample chosen randomly is meant to be an unbiased representation of
the total population. This will enable the researchers to quantify and determine the
relationship between the frequency of synchronous classes and the state of mental
health of UPIS high school students.
To figure out the sample size for the study, Slovin’s formula is used. Using the
current population of UPIS high department which is 400 students and confidence level
of 95%, the determined sample size is 197 respondents.
The present study is a non-experimental, cross-sectional descriptive correlational
survey research. The research population is comprised of college students in a selected
private university in Manila, Philippines. Majority of college students in the Philippines
belong to the latter adolescent bracket. The total sample size was 249. The recruitment
of student respondents assured that colleges of the university are proportionately
represented (College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, College of Business and
Management, College of Arts and Sciences and College of Education). Exclusion
criteria was non-completed questionnaires.
