Implementation of Apprenticeship / Internship Embedded Degree

Programme by University / Institution from the Academic Year 2021-22

National Education Policy, 2020 (NEP) has been launched by the Government of India. The
NEP under Chapter 16 has stressed for re-imagining the vocational education system in
the country. The Vocational Education will be integrated into all schools and higher
educational institutions in a phased manner. The focus area of vocational education will be
chosen based on skill gap analysis and mapping of local opportunities. For this, different
models of vocational education and, apprenticeship will also be experimented by higher
education. Government of India, in its Budget announcement 2020 has already provisioned
"Apprenticeship Embedded Degree" concept. As a follow-up UGC has already released
Guidelines for Higher Education Institutions to offer Apprenticeship / Internship Embedded
Degree Programme on 24th July, 2020, and the same is available at link

UGC vide its letter dated 07/12/2020 (letter available on the next page) has advised all
Universities / Institutions for implementation of UGC guidelines on “Apprenticeship /
Internship Embedded Degree Programme” for all the Undergraduate level general degree
Programmes. The implementation of UGC guidelines on “Apprenticeship / Internship
Embedded Degree Programme” by Universities / Institutions for all the Undergraduate
courses will fulfil following objectives:-

1. To improve the employability of students pursuing Undergraduate level general degree


Programmes.

2. To focus on outcome-based learning in degree programmes.

3. To promote active linkage between the higher education system and industry, non-
commercial and commercial enterprises/organisations.

• Promoting Industry-Academia linkages

• Improving Institution’s credibility and in brand building

• Improving the teaching learning process

• Improving functioning of the placement cell

Board of Apprenticeship Training (WR), Mumbai will help your University / Institution for
implementation of  “Apprenticeship / Internship Embedded Degree Programme” in
coordination with the concern Sector Skill Councils / Industries.
