What I Need to Know
After going through this module, the learners are expected to:
1. define information literacy;
2. determine how critical thinking skills relate to information literacy; and
3. identify the key stages/elements of information literacy.
What’s In
Try to ponder and identify the person whom you think is the greatest
man ever lived. If you could find his or her picture, the better. If not, then, you
can at least draw or write his or her name in a box. Then, give the details
about this person by answering some questions. Write your answer in a clean
sheet of paper.
Wow! You surely have a lot to share. If you can add more details that
are not included in the given questions, you are free to do so.
During the process that you have gathered details about who you think
is the most powerful man ever lived, you were able to collect data and
presented it in a usable form. In simple context, you are gathering information.
With that, it is better then to clearly define what information is. In the media
world, this is used to describe knowledge of specific events or situations that
has been gathered or received by communication, intelligence, or news
reports.
4
What’s New
Here are six questions that you need to read, then you have to evaluate
carefully the given choices and choose the best answer. Write your answer in
a separate piece of paper.
So, why are these questions important? These will guide us in going
through the steps of becoming information literate. These are identified as the
Stages/Elements of Information Literacy. Let us learn more about this.

is a responsible user of information. Write on a piece of paper the word RIGHT
if it shows being an information literate individual and WRONG, if it does not.
Are your answers mostly RIGHT? Then, you are doing a great job in
evaluating the sentences in the activity. Do not worry about not getting it all
correctly, we will still be doing a few more activities to enhance your knowledge
on information literacy.
Let’s try another activity. This time, you are tasked to evaluate a news
article from Inquirer.net. Read the instructions first before you continue doing
what is asked in the activity.
