Some 208B EX operators have asked Cessna for an after market 300-Ampere Starter/Generator
installation.
DESCRIPTION
This service bulletin provides parts and instructions to install a 300-Ampere starter/generator on 208B EX
airplanes.
COMPLIANCE
OPTIONAL. This service bulletin can be accomplished at the discretion of the owner.

NOTE: This information must be considered an amendment to the Cessna Manufacturer's
Service/Maintenance Manual.
ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
1. Prepare the airplane for maintenance.
A. Make sure that the airplane is electrically grounded.
B. Make sure that all switches are in the OFF/NORM position.
C. Disconnect electrical power from the airplane.
(1) Disconnect external electrical power.
(2) Disconnect the airplane battery.
D. Attach maintenance warning tags to the battery and external power receptacle that have "DO NOT
CONNECT ELECTRICAL POWER - MAINTENANCE IN PROGRESS" written on them.
2. Remove the left and right upper engine cowlings. (Refer to the Maintenance Manual, Chapter 71, Engine
Cowling and Nose Cap - Maintenance Practices.)
3. (Refer to Figure 1, Detail A.) Install the 300SGL145Q-1 300 Ampere starter-generator as follows:
A. On the aft end of the starter/generator, loosen the hose clamp that attaches the S1053K24T30.0
Duct. Keep the attachment hardware.
B. Remove the 200 Ampere starter/generator. (Refer to the Maintenance Manual, Chapter 80,
Starter/Generator - Maintenance Practices.)
NOTE: Operators: The existing 200 Ampere starter/generator cannot be modified. Return the
starter/generator to Cessna Service Parts and Programs. Customers will receive an
applicable trade-in allowance for their serviceable 200 Ampere starter-generator.
C. Remove the starter/generator quick-attach-detach (QAD) adaptor and gasket. Discard the gasket
and the four MS21042L5 Nuts, and keep the four NAS1149C0532R Washers.
D. As necessary, move some of the lines around the QAD adaptor to give necessary clearance and fit
of the QAD adaptor.
E. Put the QAD adapter in the correct installation position with the internal machined circular recesses
on the top.
F. With a new S3365-1 Gasket, four new MS21042L5 Nuts, and four kept NAS1149C0532R Washers,
install the new QAD adaptor (that is supplied with the 300-Ampere starter/generator) on the engine.
(Refer to the Maintenance Manual, Chapter 80, Starting, Starter-Generator - Maintenance Practices.)
G. Install the 300SGL145Q-1 300 Ampere Starter/Generator. (Refer to the Maintenance Manual,
Chapter 80, Starter/Generator - Maintenance Practices.)
H. Trim the end of the S1053K24T30.0 Duct that is adjacent to the 300-Ampere starter/generator until
the end of the S1053K24T30.0 Duct that you trim fits over the 300-Ampere starter/generator cooling
port without excess tension or slack. Approximately 8.0 to 8.5 inches in length should be removed
from the S1053K24T30.0 Duct when you have finished the modification.
I. Attach the trimmed S1053K24T30.0 Duct Assembly to the 300SGL145Q-1 300 Ampere
Starter/Generator with the kept S1891-48 Hose Clamp.
4. Do the 300 amp starter configuration upload to the G1000 Avionics system as follows:
A. With the avionics power on, disengage the PFD1, PFD2, and MFD circuit breakers.

B. Remove the database SD cards from the bottom slots of the PFD1, PFD2, and MFD displays,
mark the SD Cards as "PFD1", "PFD2", or "MFD" as you remove them, and store them in a safe
place for later installation.
C. Push and hold the ENT key on PFD2 while you engage the PFD2 circuit breaker.
D. Release the ENT key when the message INITIALIZING SYSTEM shows on the PFD2.
E. Push and hold the ENT key on the MFD while you engage the MFD circuit breaker.
F. Release the ENT key when the message INITIALIZING SYSTEM shows on the MFD.
G. Install the 010-00681-15 (or latest revision) G1000 Software Loader Card in the top SD slot of
the PFD1.
NOTE: The G1000 Software Loader Card (latest revision) should be kept in the SD card holder in
the Pilot's Operating Handbook. If you cannot find the latest revision of the G1000 Software
Loader Card, contact Cessna.
H. Push and hold the ENT key on PFD1 while you engage the PFD1 circuit breaker.
I. Release the ENT key when the message INITIALIZING SYSTEM shows on the PFD1.
J. Push the NO soft key when the message DO YOU WANT TO UPDATE SYSTEM FILES? shows.
K. Turn the small FMS knob on the PFD1 to go to the SYSTEM group SYSTEM UPLOAD page.
L. Push the small FMS knob on the PFD1 to start the cursor.
M. Turn the small FMS knob to highlight INSTALLATION OPTIONS - GENERAL in the group field
and push the ENT key.
N. Turn the small FMS knob to highlight CESSNA CARAVAN - 300 A GENERATOR INSTALLATION
OPTION in the item field and push the ENT key.
O. Push the LOAD soft key.
P. Monitor the upload status.
(1) If the upload fails, push the ENT key when the Upload Failed message is shown, and them
push the LOAD soft key to begin the upload again.
(2) If the upload completes successfully, push the ENT key when the Upload Complete message
is shown.
NOTE: You can attempt to upload for a maximum of five times because of a failed or cancelled
upload prompt message. If the system does not upload after the fifth attempt, refer to
the 190-00869-00 Garmin Line Maintenance Manual, Revision E or later, Appendix B.3
Software / Configuration Troubleshooting. If the system still does not upload, contact
Cessna Customer Service: Telephone 316-517-5800.
Q. Put the AVIONICS 1 and 2 switches in the OFF position and remove the G1000 Software Loader
Card from the top slot of the PFD1.
R. Insert the database SD cards into the bottom slots of the PFD1, PFD2, and MFD displays from
which you removed them.
S. Put the AVIONICS 1 and 2 switches to the ON position and let the system power on in normal mode.
T. Make sure that no G1000 system messages, alerts, annunciations, or Red X's are shown on PFD1,
PFD2, or the MFD on the AUX-SYSTEM STATUS page.
(1) If there are no G1000 system messages, alerts, annunciations, or Red X's shown on PFD1,
PFD2, or the MFD on the AUX-SYSTEM STATUS page, go to Step 5.
(2) If there are G1000 system messages, alerts, annunciations, or Red X's shown on PFD1, PFD2,
or the MFD on the AUX-SYSTEM STATUS page, reference the Garmin Line Maintenance
Manual 190-00869-00 Revision E (or later revision) for troubleshooting instructions.

5. Set the generator control unit (GCU) to 28.5 volts for the 300-Ampere starter/generator. (Refer to the
Model 208 Maintenance Manual, Chapter 24, Generator Control Unit - Maintenance Practices.)
6. Make sure of correct electrical output of the battery and the generator as follows:
NOTE: The DC clamp-on ammeter used in the procedure that follows can be a handheld or a remote unit
used in conjunction with a millivolt meter. The ammeter should have an accuracy of at least 3%.
Airplane engine speed may need to be above idle when airplane loads in this check are applied.
A. Remove the maintenance warning tags and connect the airplane battery.
B. Start the engine. (Refer to Pilot's Operating Handbook and Approved Airplane Flight Manual.)
C. On the G1000 MFD Engine System Page, make sure that the BUS VOLTS shows approximately
28.5 volts.
D. Do a check of the standby alternator if installed.
(1) Put the standby power switch in the ON position and put the generator switch in the TRIP
position.
(2) Put a clamp-on ammeter over the alternator output cable that is attached to the BAT terminal
and apply an airplane load of approximately 50 Amperes.
(3) Make sure that the ALT AMPS on the G1000 MFD Engine System page is within + or - 10% of
the reading on the clamp-on ammeter.
E. Do a check of the battery as follows:
(1) Make sure that the BATT switch is in the ON position.
(2) Put the standby power switch to the OFF position and leave the generator tripped to OFF.
(3) Put a clamp-on ammeter over the two positive battery cables and apply an airplane load of
approximately 50 Amperes.
(4) Make sure that the BAT AMPS on the G1000 MFD Engine System page is within + or - 10% of
the reading on the clamp-on ammeter.
F. Do a check of the generator.
(1) Put the generator switch in the ON position.
(2) Put a clamp-on ammeter over the two generator output cables that are attached to the
generator terminal B+ and apply an airplane load of 50 Amperes.
(3) Make sure that the GEN AMPS on the G1000 MFD Engine System page is within + or - 10% of
the reading on the clamp-on ammeter.
G. Stop the engine.
7. Install the left and right upper engine cowlings. (Refer to the Model 208 Maintenance Manual, Chapter 71,
Engine Cowling and Nose cap - Maintenance Practices.)
8. If not already installed, review and incorporate the applicable 208BPHCUS-S8-00 or 208BPHDUS-S8-00
300-Amp Starter/Generator POH Supplement.
9. Make an entry in the airplane logbook that states compliance and method of compliance with this
service bulletin.
