Your Body is Amazingly Beautiful

In this world, no one could ever escape the eyes of a judgemental society. One could be thin yet still be
labelled as sick. One can also be thick but will also be labelled as curvy. Saggy boobs which are just
normal stuffs could not also escape discrimination. Nobody knows who set the standards for beauty. No
one has the idea of whoever made a bar in setting of what is beautiful. We are too focused on making our
bodies beautiful to the point that we forget what it should be, what should be its purpose, that it is not just
a showcase of beauty but a lifetime treasure to be taken care of.
"Exercise not only changes your body, it changes your mind, your attitude and your mood."
This has been the everyday motivation of Charlottte Anne T. Samonte. She is a political science student
in La Salle University- ozamiz.
Growing up, she was always labelled as a cutie. She had chubby cheeks, thick thighs and arms and
some belly rolls. She was young and receiving compliments like these had always made her smile,
always gave her butterflies on her stomach. What more could a child be more happy than a piece of
candy? Well, I guess that would be making other smile by just existing and being cute. She was
everyone’s favourite cuddle bear.
As she was slowly becoming a teen, she knew that something’s off. She always look at her body on the
mirror, assessing it as if it was a new item received. She always checked if her parts were alright, if they
were still functional. She would move her body from the head to her neck, from shoulders to fingers,
breast to hips, legs to feet. She said to herself that she was completely fine. But these thoughts were not
just enough for her. She was wondering as to why boys would never like her. Sometimes girls were mean
to her as if she is another kind of being.
With the contradicting impressions she received when she was little and when she was in teenager years,
she could not understand as to what is truly right and not. She believed that bodies were made for us to
be able to do works. Well, she can do works but she also asked why she was hated and bullied.
Keeping up with peers is such a thing especially if you are a high schooler. The endless discrimination
from her classmates about her chubby cheeks and thick thighs and arms made her lose all her self
confidence. She did not dare to socialize a lot thinking that she will only get hurt verbally and possibly
physically. Her unhealthy mindset resulted also to a very unhealthy lifestyle. What was in her mind was
that what would be the point of being healthy if I will only still receive criticism.
From the very enthusiastic Charlotte Anne who always look at herself in the mirror with a smile plastered
on her face, she now could not even have the courage to look at herself in the mirror, on chances that she
does she will only end up with tears falling upon her cheeks. She was devastated. She became extra
grumpy. She hated her cheeks. She hated her thighs. She hated her arms. She hated her baby fats rolled
on her tummy. She hated almost everything about her
Despite that, in her academic life she always made it with flying colors. She would always be sent to other
schools to compete. Yes, of course it was not beauty competitions. It was competitions that would use her
skills in talking like broadcasting or orathorical contests. With everything she hated about herself there
was an only exception- her lips. She believed that if it was not because of her lips that can pronounce
beautifully, she would probably hate everything about her. Her adoration of her lips gave her a glimpse of
hope that someday her body too will be beautiful as it is.
Graduating high school and getting on with college sent her a lot of feelings. She was scared at the same
time excited. She was not yet in love with herself but she was hopeful. She said to herself that going to
college will be a new set of journey which means that this will also be a new chance for herself.
Step by step she changed her routine. She used to wake up very late in the morning but now she wakes
up before dawn to have a jog around the subdivision. Her breakfast used to be a bowl of cereal yet now
she always want a bowl of salad or an oatmeal on her table. Her can of soda turned to a cup of tea or a
bottle of water. She changed her eating habits also. Before, mornings for her were a curse yet now
mornings are her favourite part of the day because it gives her so much energy to move.
Gradually her body changes. It turned out pretty great. Her body was not just functional but extremely
strong too. Her thick thighs which she hated before has now become her best asset. It looked so sexy.
Her chubby cheeks also had fit perfectly in her face. Those arms which she also hated are now every
woman’s favourite. Eventually she learned to love her parts.
When she sweats, she feels more alive rather than tired. She thought that workout will tire everything out
of you but it turns out it was the other way around. Her body being in shape and strong and healthy also
resulted to a happy and healthy mind set. With workout, she knew how to focus. She learned discipline.
She learned the value of perseverance. These are just few lessons that she unknowingly have applied in
her life. These lessons were keys for her in achieving a productive lifestyle
It was never an easy ride according to her, it took a lot of courage to start and a lot of inspirations to keep
going. She was wrong when she said that her body is not beautiful. It always has been a beauty, it just
needed to hustle.
No one should not be afraid to start hustling for their body. Our body is our only property no one could
take away. We should always take care of it. We must give time for our self. In this way, we also benefit.
We do not just become sexy we also become healthy. Exercises also give you time for yourself which is
healthy for your being. A lot thought that workouts are just merely for the body yet little do they know it
affects your whole life positively.
