Leaders Are Born V/S Leaders Are Made: Introduction (Aditi)

Leaders can be both born and made. While some people exhibit innate leadership qualities from a young age such as charisma and confidence, most leadership skills can be learned through experience and training. This is evidenced by examples of Sachin Tendulkar, who was talented as a cricket player but not as a natural captain, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who demonstrated qualities of a born leader like remaining calm under pressure and empowering his team. Overall, great leaders have innate talents that are then shaped and enhanced through learning and developing leadership skills over time.

LEADERS ARE BORN V/S LEADERS

ARE MADE

INTRODUCTION (Aditi)
Are Leaders born or made? This is one of the most often-asked question about leadership. So today
group number 4 will be presenting on the topic LEADERS ARE BORN V/S LEADERS ARE MADE
Good afternoon maam and to all my classmates today we will try our best to answer this
question! My beautiful team mates to present this presentation are

 ADITI MALI
 SHRUTI THAKUR
 JUGRAJ MEHTA &
 AMAN TIWARI
Firstly let me tell you what exactly leader is? The ability to effectively lead, motivate and direct a
group of people – whether it is in business, sport or politics - requires a very complex set of skills,
mostly acquired through experiences, self development as well as access to subsequent training. So
guys please pay attention during our presentation as we might play some game in between which is
related the info in the presentation and in order to make our presentation more understandable we are
going to take examples from cricket. Now without any further a do lets start with leaders are made

LEADERS ARE MADE (aman)

If leaders were solely born what is the point of the rest of us studying
leadership or management?
Not everyone can be a leader just like not everyone can become a good
actor. Some people will never have that aspect in them while others have
the latent ability and thus can be taught how to lead. JUST in The same
way All the books, classes education and training cannot turn a
follower into a leader.
Most people can learn to manage well, start a business, lead a project
team since good management is based on rules - rules that can be learned
and mastered.
When you hear the phrase “born leader,” do you feel good about yourself?
Or do you feel that you’ll never be in a position to lead others? If you don’t
feel like a born leader Research suggests that only about 30% of leadership
is genetic, while 70% is a result of life lessons and experience.
For a better explanation lets take an example of SACHIN TENDULKAR

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. is a former international cricketer of India who served as captain of

the Indian national team. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of
cricket. What Sachin Tendulkar the batsman achieved- hundred international
centuries is a record that’s going to take some beating. No one can ever question
his talent and his contribution to the sport. But the topic of discussion here is his
captaincy which was sadly a dent in his playing portfolio. The Little Master
Blaster had two spells as captain. The first one was in 1996. He lasted for a little
time as the team was performing poorly. His second spell was even worse – which
prompted him to resign from captaincy. In 25 Tests, he won just 4 games and had
23 victories from 73 ODIs It goes on to prove that he has loads of knowledge and
inputs to share, but he was not the correct person who could command his troops
when he was their leader.  Under Tendulkar india had one of their worse overseas
tours ever in the year 1999 when the team went to Australia. In fact, when Rahul
Dravid resigned as captain, the then BCCI president Sharad Pawar asked
Tendulkar to take over the reins for the third time in his illustrious career – the
latter refused the offer and asked MS Dhoni to be made the captain instead. He was
the first one to see the potential of Dhoni as a captain and the rest, as they say, is
history.

Okay so guys heres a small crossword we have to solve so lets start

LEADERS ARE BORN

How do you feel when somebody compliments you by saying
“oh it feels like you born to be a LEADER!” Feels amazing
right..? does it make you think what he might have seen in you
Here are some qualities of a born leader:
 CHARISMA
 SELF CONFIDANCE
 INTELLIGENCE &
 HIGHLY SOCIALLY AWARE
Born leaders are people with an innate capacity to effectively
manage and lead group of people to achieve collective goals.
Instead of learning to become an effective leader they have the
instinctive ability to inspire others and encourage them to follow
their vision.
For a better explanation lets take an example of MAHENDRA SINGH
DHONI
The name is familiar to every Indian who loves cricket as he is one of the most
celebrated cricketers in India and around the globe.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a former Indian international cricketer who captained the Indian
national team

MS Dhoni is the only captain to win an ODI World Cup, World T20,
and ICC Champions Trophy. These wins underscore the fact that
he is one of the best limited-overs captains of all time.
Here are some top 5 qualities in him that set him apart from rest of
the leaders:
1. Staying Calm

He wasn’t called ‘Captain Cool’ for anything! MS Dhoni wasn’t one to

succumb to the pressure & his ability to make rational decisions in the
toughest times accentuated this quality. It is important for a leader to
remain calm in the most strenuous situations to restore faith from their
team into them & manage the situation with ease.

2. Backs his people

He places an immense trust on his people and backs them to deliver.
This allows him to express themselves freely without the fear of failure.
At the workplace, team members reciprocate and feel a sense of
responsibility basis on the trust shown by their leaders on them.

3. Handling Success

MS Dhoni won fame and money at an early stage in his career but he didn’t let
that change his attitude and always remained humble. A great leader earns
respect but doesn’t command it – the way MS Dhoni handled his success was
extremely commendable. Those who gain success too early, often tend to lose
their balance and fail to maintain the steady growth to the path of leadership.

4. Dealing with Failure

As important it is to be able to handle success, it is equally important to be able

to handle failure.

In the 2011 World Cup, Dhoni and his team were spectacularly successful but
suffered a string of losses after that. Dhoni fought back simply by playing well.
As he explained in his BCCI.TV interview;

“The 2011 World Cup: This had a different challenge. Those 15 players who
formed the squad not only had to play their best cricket for that period but also
be in a really good mental state. They needed to stay calm amid all the pressures
and constantly concentrate on the areas they needed to improve on, despite all
that was going on around them. Fitness again was very important and difficult
to maintain given the amount of cricket we play.”

5. Being A Team Player

A leader is as much as part of the team as the rest of the members. Dhoni
always supported his players at all times with trust and confidence and stood up
for them when needed. The confidence that he created among his fellow team
members helped them deliver their best. This unfailing support bestowed upon
them a responsibility to perform well.

India will surely miss watching Mahendra Singh Dhoni lead the national cricket
team to yet another victory.
CONCLUSION
So we all came to the conclusion
Talented leaders are indeed born inside the people who have quality with it. The correct
words of it is: great leaders are shaped. It is just like a diamond, it is not made, but
shaped, from raw stone to the shiny one. Only people who has the quality of a leader,
can be taught leadership, and shaped into a good leader. From what we observe,
leadership is related to one's personality. If you don't have the quality and personality of
the leader, no matter how much training of leadership the person get, he won't become
a leader, because you cannot change their personality.

This is the same with football, music, or science, or the other field. If you ask can anyone
play football or play music or study science, the answer is THEY can. But can anyone
become Messi? Mozart? Or even Einstein? Then the answer is no. Because Messi, Mozart,
or Einstein is born with the talent specific to that field, then their talent is shaped
through the training. What about others who does not have the talent? They will become
normal player, normal musician, normal teacher.

It is the same with leader and leadership. Can anyone learn leadership? Yes they can. Can
anyone become leader after the leadership training? The answer is no. Only people born
with the talent with it can be shaped into a great leader.
As a result LEADERS ARE BORN AND NOT MADE!
