Alisha’s Diary. - My weekend in Manchester
It’s Sunday night and I’m staying with my brother in Manchester
for a few days. He’s a student at the university. Yesterday was
awesome. In the morning, we were near the Old Trafford
football stadium. There was a match between Manchester
United and Manchester city and the atmosphere was incredible. But
the weather was awful! So in the afternoon, the entertainment was…
shopping! We were at Afflecks for hours. It’s huge
old building with loads of cool small shops. It’s
better than a shopping centre. There are café,
vintage clothes shops, fancy dress, skates, old
records, jewellery and cake shops with the best
cupcakes ever! And then in the evening, we were in
a Chinatown in a fantastic restaurant. The food was delicious!
I wasn’t interested in getting up early this morning. I was so tired! In the afternoon we were
in Castlefield. It’s a heritage park. There’s an original Ancient Roman fort, the world’s first
industrial canal, and the world’s oldest train station. OK, It’s old stuff but I had an amazing
day! It wasn’t cold and rain today!
How was your trip? Let me now...!

That seems easy!
Yes, but there are some spelling rules.
If a verb ends in -e, you add -d.
• agree → agreed
• like → liked
• escape → escaped
If a verb ends in a vowel and a consonant, the consonant is usually doubled before -ed.
• stop → stopped
• plan → planned
If a verb ends in consonant and -y, you take off the y and add -ied.
• try → tried
• carry → carried
But if the word ends in a vowel and -y, you add -ed.
• play → played
• enjoy → enjoyed
PAST SIMPLE – IRREGULAR VERBS
• I took a taxi to the airport. (take → took)
• That was when we spoke. (speak → spoke)
