Spill Control Valve Inspection

This document provides instructions for inspecting components of an engine fuel injection pump, including: 1. Measuring the resistance of the engine speed sensor and replacing the pump if outside specifications. 2. Measuring the resistance of the spill control valve and replacing the pump if outside specifications. 3. Measuring the resistance of the timing control valve and replacing the pump if outside specifications. 4. Testing the operation of the timing control valve by applying voltage and checking for a clicking sound.

ENGINE FUEL − INJECTION PUMP (1HD−FTE)

Ohmmeter INJECTION PUMP (1HD−FTE) FU05I−01

ON−VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. INSPECT ENGINE SPEED SENSOR RESISTANCE
(a) Disconnect the sensor connector.
(b) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the
terminals.
Resistance: 205 − 255 W at 20˚C (68˚F)
B05404
If the resistance is not as specified, replace the injection pump.
(c) Reconnect the sensor connector.
Ohmmeter 2. INSPECT SPILL CONTROL VALVE RESISTANCE
(a) Disconnect the valve connector.
(b) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the
terminals.
Resistance: 1 − 2 W at 20˚C (68˚F)
If the resistance is not as specified, replace the injection pump.
(c) Reconnect the valve connector.

B05405

3. INSPECT TIMING CONTROL VALVE RESISTANCE

(a) Disconnect the valve connector.
(b) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between ter-
Ohmmeter minals.
Resistance: 10 − 14 W at 20˚C (68˚F)
If the resistance is not as specified, replace the injection pump.
(c) Reconnect the valve connector.

B05406

4. INSPECT TIMING CONTROL VALVE OPERATION

+B (a) Disconnect the valve connector.
TCV
(b) Connect the battery positive (+) terminal to the valve ter-
minal +B.
(c) Connect the battery negative (−) terminal to the valve ter-
minal TCV.
(d) Check that the solenoid makes a ”clicks” sound.
Battery If operation is not as specified, replace the injection pump.
B05407 NOTICE:
S Do not apply voltage for more than 30 seconds to
avoid burning out the solenoid.
S If repeating this step, wait until the solenoid cools
down enough that it can be touched by hand.
(e) Reconnect the valve connector.
5. INSPECT FUEL TEMPERATURE SENSOR
