FORWARD

One of the early problems which confront young men and women in search for life-long
partners is the dearth of books on the step-by-step approaches to courtship and the marriage
processes in a typical Christian setting. Sadly enough, the western education system which
took over the traditional learning and enculturation processes completely obliterated our
indigenous knowledge systems on courtship and marriage from the school curriculum.
Therefore, our young men and women become very handicapped when it comes to the
question of choosing their ideal life partners and arranging for cost-effective wedding
ceremonies. In absence of any structured courtship and marriage education for the youth most
bachelors and spinsters fall victims to overbearing family and/or peer group pressures by
contracting unplanned marriages that more often than not end up in hasty and unfortunate
divorces.

Fortunately, Before Your Wedding provides quick and practical answers to the myriad of
problems which confront potential couples on daily basis. I strongly recommend this book to
any potential suitor who is looking for the right way to choose a life-long partner with regards
to the right approach to the courtship process as well as the step-by-step approach to planning
effective Christian marriages. Some of the key strengths of Before Your Wedding lie in the
author’s insistence on complete sexual abstinence before marriage; the need to back every
courtship process with fasting and fervent prayers and most importantly, the need for the
suitor and the would-be bride to have a common religious belief and background.

Pastor Melchi approached the complex subject of marriage from the perspectives of his deep-
seated Christian training and philosophy. He skilfully combined the virtues of oratory,
suspense, poetry and a series of practical questions to forcefully drive home all the positive
ingredients that contribute to a successful marriage life. These ingredients include, among
others, the basic things which every suitor must know and rely upon when embarking on any
courtship and marriage venture; selecting the ideal spouse; courtship; timing of the wedding
ceremony; the wedding colours and the ring; wedding expenses; wedding and reception
protocols; the honey moon arrangements and many others. Readers who may be looking for
the best way to arrange a cost effective wedding ceremony will find in Before Your
Marriage a very useful and up-to-date book of reference.

Melchi finally strikes a very important note which should not escape the attention of his
valued readers. While urging the future couples to seek the hand of God in their marriages
through signs and physical manifestations he urges all and sundry to ask God to lead them to
the answer so provided. Pastor Melchi nearly moved me to tears by his narrative of the
situation in which he and his newly wedded wife failed to look for the answer that the good
Lord had provided prior to their wedding ceremony. They discovered to their consternation,
at the very last minute after their wedding reception, that they had doubted God in vain.

Before Your Marriage testifies to considerable amount of research and industry therefore
Pastor Melchi deserves to be congratulated.
