- Basic Competence : basic competence in material “Giving suggestions and
offers and their responses” in the class XI Senior High School.
1.1 Mensyukuri kesempatan dapat mempelajari bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa
pengantar komunikasi International yang diwujudkan dalam semangat belajar
2.1 Menunjukkan perilaku santun dan peduli dalam melaksanakan komunikasi
interpersonal dengan guru dan teman.
3.1. Menganalisis fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan pada ungkapan
memberi saran dan tawaran, serta responnya, sesuai dengan konteks
penggunaannya.
4.1. Menyusun teks lisan dan tulis untuk menyatakan, menanyakan, dan
merespons ungkapan memberi saran dan tawaran, dengan memperhatikan
fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan yang benar dan sesuai
konteks.
- Approaches and Methods you are using in your design : I am using group discussion
and using Role Play to increase students’ speaking skill.

3 Learners Need
- Age/ grade : 16-17 years old / XI Senior High School
- Characteristics : Students understand other people as unique
individuals, both regarding personal traits, interests, values, and feelings.
Students also have a tendency to give up or follow the opinions, opinions, values,
habits, hobbies or desires of others (peers).
- Learning styles (Visual/auditory/Kinesthetic) : Visual and Auditory
- Learning preference/ motivation : powerpoint, worksheet and audio
- Aptitude / intelligence : aptitude that will be developed in this
class is speaking skill, vocabulary and their grammar.
- Economy background : low and high economic

4 Setting
- Unit/school : SMKN2 Muaro Jambi
- Location (rural/urban/suburban/city) : rural area (Jl. Popo Natawijaya, Suka
Makmur, Kec. Sungai Bahar, Kab. Muaro Jambi Prov. Jambi.

- Private/ state/ religion-based : State


- Size of the school : 2 hektare ( 20.000 m2 )
- Facilities in the school :
1. 26 Classroom (teacher's desk and chair, students’ desks and chairs, whiteboard,
classroom cupboard, infocus projectors).
2. Headmaster’s office, waka and teachers room.
3. library and health room (medical program learning equipment)
4. teacher toilets and student toilets
5. computer laboratory and multimedia equipment
6. network laboratory and equipment TKJ(Computer and Network Engineering)
laboratorium.
7. health laboratory and UKS
8. Natural Science Laboratory(lab. IPA)
9. farmland and farm equipment
10. Business Center SMKN2 Muaro Jambi
- Staff : 47 teachers and 5 administrations
- Teachers’ background education : D3,S1, and S2(for English teacher that I
take is S1 of English education).

5 Goals/ objectives
- Provide learning materials to make it easier for students to distinguish between
spoken and written texts, giving suggestions or offers.
- Improving students speaking skill by using role play in the XI Senior High school.

2. Design an instructional material (in any kind of form, e.g. module, worksheet, etc.) based on
your need analysis above.
Material (Module of Giving suggestions and offers and their responses) :

Anton : I have a serious problem today. I have just lost my driver license.
Shally : Don't be so sad my friend, let us search it around the park.
Anton : I have looked for it for hours but I do not find it, do you have some ideas?
Shally : You had better tell the securities to announce it to other students.
Anton : Yeah, that sounds good. I do hope it helps.

In this section, we are going to learn about Suggestion, Offer and their response . the
conversation above shows the example of asking and giving suggestion. When is the expression
of Asking and Giving suggestion used? Have you ever been in a situation where we were having
a problem and couldn't solve it ourselves, it's better if we ask for advice/advice from family,
friends, or even boyfriends.
We also usually ask for advice if we are confused in determining something or vice versa if
there are friends who experience the same thing, we can give them advice.
The expression of asking and giving suggestion in English is called the expression of asking
and giving suggestion. Suggestion is an expression of an idea for someone else to do something.
While an offer is different from suggestion. An offer is an expression of willingness to do
something.

In giving suggestion, We can accept and refused it. Now look at the expression of accept and
refused suggestion.

Anton  : I have a serious problem today. I have just lost my wallet. 

Beny  : Really? Where did you lose it? 

Anton : Hmm… Maybe in the park.

Beny  : I think you should be more careful with your belongings.  

Anton : Yeah, I think so. This is my fault. 

Beny  : Don’t be sad Anton.  I hope you can find it really soon. 

Anton : Thank you Beny. Do you have any suggestion for me?  

Beny : If I may suggest, you should go to the park and look for it more detail.  

Anton : I have looked for it for hours but I did not find it. Do you have another suggestion?  

Beny : Hmm… You  would better tell the securities to help you to find it and also announce
it to the visitors.  

Anton : Yeah you are right. I will try it. Thank you for your suggestions. 
Beny : You are welcome Anton. Next time, it is better for you to keep your important stuffs
in a safe place . 

Anton : Certainly Ben.

Lana: Ah that one, I finished mine though. Do you want me to help yours?( ! (example of

Yara: That’s a very nice of you Lana, but you got a game to play. You won’t finished it by the
time the play starts. It’s okay. Thank you though, I appreciate it. ! (example of expression
Lana: Okay then, just get my book at my desk if you want to look at it. See you Yara!

Yara: Bye, and good luck!

*Assignment : After you read the example of suggestion and an offer. I would like you to
make a group which consist of 2-3 people and then make the role play that contain those
expressions. Please show it in front of the class
