How adopting a pet works
Adopting and properly caring for an animal is a huge responsibility and commitment that many
people don’t understand and don’t see it in that way at the beginning, and for this reason, they
abandon them on the street or mistreat them, the numbers of abandoned and abused animals are
high and for this reason, the shelters or pets stores are more rigorous at the moment to give an
animal, they evaluate the future owner and in some cases, they make visits to the house to
confirm that those people can give an appropriate space for their future pet.
First, we need to understand that animals are a fundamental part of our lives, the pets give us a
very different type of love than we feel with people, when an animal comes into our lives it is
important to give them the love and protection they need, they are not just our company, they
feel our love, feelings, and perceive our mood every day. For many people, the process of
adopting a pet is confused because between so many options they want to choose the one they
consider is correct even they like all of the others, for many people usually take more time to do
it, and for others its easier; and it is essential to know that all the animals are different and have
different needs and its necessary to adapt them to us and we to them.
Second, for choosing the correct pet we always consider different aspects of how we want it to
be such as age, size, or color, and this sometimes makes the process take longer than we
expected, we consider aspects because we will have to adapt to each other, it will be coexistence
from day to day for the rest of both lives, it will be our company and for the others that live with
us, our house it will be adapted to the pet, and other things will change. Many times the reality of
adoption is that when we interact with each one we meet, there is always a specific animal that
captures our attention even if it is not what we hoped, and for this, our future pet shouldn’t be
adopted as an obligation if not because we want to have it, and that pet must become one more
member of the family.
During we have decided to have a pet and what type it will be, it is necessary to adapt the space
according to the characteristics of the pet, it must be something of their own in which the pet will
feel calm, comfortable, safe, and a place that he or she can play; at the same time, we must show
it the place where he or she will eat, sleep and do the needs, but above all be patient during the
process since both parts must adapt to the change and it doesn’t happen so quickly, all this and
other aspects will help to create the best owner-pet bond and it will allow having an organized
place in the house for everyone because even our pet will be in our space, he or she will always
need something of their own and know which are the limits at home.
Then, the feeding and medical attention cannot unnoticed, the pet will need feeding with time
and established quantity that contributes to maintaining a balance between energy, rest, weight,
and health; for animals it is essential to have a sign or something that tells them when it is time to
eat and when to eat and not to disturb their owner; The medical attention they receive in case of
getting sick or something happens it is a priority, it is an animal and member of the family and
deserves it as much as we need, also considering that it will not be a commercial breeding
animal, it is necessary to consider sterilization for the health of the pet.
Last but not least, the attention, treatment, love, and protection that pet receives from us will be a
key piece in the adaptation of the pet; no animal deserves mistreatment of any kind and that is
why, we must be sure of the decision made, the pets are beings that come into our lives to give us
happiness and support and we to their lives. Knowing that the adoption of a pet has so many
requirements is what makes us realize how important an animal life is; having a pet in our lives
can be so beneficial to our health and mood in general. Walking with pets is also a way to get
exercise! Don't buy, adopt!
