Task 2 : Explain in English how you understand the following.
a. To be going to get very far in one’s career
Career success is a combination of achieving a reasonable level of financial stability while
doing work you enjoy and then finding that you are also happy and fulfilled with your life
and career choices as well. If you love your job but find that it doesn’t lead to financial self-
sufficiency, career success is diminished, and if you get paid very well but lack joy or interest
in your chosen career field, career success is diminished. True career success requires that
there is alignment between the two.
b. To give one flexibility to cover a wide range of news stories and features
Stories that report only the most essential information in a concise and impartial manner
are referred to as straight or hard news stories. This type of story typically follows the
inverted pyramid style, which organizes information by descending order of importance or
places the most newsworthy information at the beginning of the article. This style will be
discussed in more detail below. Examples of hard news stories include those about political
topics and crime.
c. To draw on all the knowledge and skills one has required
Knowledge is the theoretical understanding of a subject. It’s what you’ve learned through
education or work experience. For example, in building and construction, you will require
knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of
houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads.
d. to need a sound of schooling e, to have a competitive edge on SMB
Undoubtedly E-learning has many benefits, but some downsides of it can also be identified.
Online learners may easily get distracted, lose focus, or miss deadlines, E-learning is
dependent on technology: the internet and computers, which students may not have access
to, and interruptions or other system errors may appear during courses.
e. To benefit conventional skills
A conventional personality type likes to work with data and numbers, carry out tasks in
detail and follow through on the instructions of others. They are quiet, careful, responsible,
well organized and task oriented. These individuals use their mind, eyes and hands to carry
out tasks.
Task 3 Answer the following questions using the information from the text.
1. Why are often reporters not too highly regarded by the public? Can you give examples
from the text or from your own experience?
Answer: Some of this disregard is because the press itself is often not respected, but quite
often reporters are not well thought of because they do not present themselves in a
professional manner. A lot of the remedy is in the reporters’ own hands. If reporters present
themselves looking scruffy, they must not complain - though they frequently do - if they are
treated scruffily by people in authority and with little respect by anybody else. Reporters are
one type of journalist. They create reports as a profession for broadcast or publication in
mass media such as newspapers, television, radio, magazines, documentary films, and the
Internet. Reporters find the sources for their work, their reports can be either spoken or
written, and they are generally expected to report in the most objective and unbiased way
to serve the public good.
2. What does the term “journalist” include according to the text?
Answer: The term “journalist” carries a connotation or expectation of professionalism in
reporting, with consideration for truth and ethics although, in some areas, such as the
downmarket, scandal-led tabloids, the standards are deliberately negated. The collecting,
writing, editing, and presenting of news or news articles.
3. Do you know the difference between a journalist and a reporter?
Answer: The difference between a reporter and a journalist is that a reporter's role is to
communicate a story to the public, but a journalist's goal is to investigate fresh stories.
Journalists write editorials for newspapers, magazines, and a variety of other publications.
Reporters cover breaking news on television, radio, and other forms of mass media. A
reporter will go to the court house and report both the prosecution and defense arguments
for the lunch time bulletin, or tomorrow's front page. A journalist will note what shoes the
defendant was wearing, who was crying in the public gallery, and then, when the case is
finished, interview jury members (where legal, and, sometimes, where illegal) before
wrapping up with context from similar cases, statistics, and, a year from now, do a follow
up.
4. Is education important for a British journalist?
Answer: Education is clearly important but that does not mean that the better educated
he/she is the better a reporter will be. Anyone who has been to a British university has been
privileged but let them not think a degree is a guarantee of quality over those who have not
got one. Any young man or woman coming out of secondary school with a good scholastic
record has basic education enough to make a journalist. They will need a good many other
qualities. Clearly, this does not mean that those who have gone to a British University have
been wasting their time but at the very best university graduates entering journalism should
only consider they have perhaps a competitive edge on those who have not been to
university
5. What skills should a journalist have? Dwell on the most important skills
Answer: The skills you require mostly depend on the kind of journalism you want to do.
Persistence, imagination, self- discipline, and huge self-confidence are the most important
skills you need. More specifically, journalism covers a range of tasks. In print, these will
include reporting, feature writing, sub-editing, photography, layout, illustration and
graphics, and a host of specialist jobs from drawing cartoons and compiling crosswords to
researching background and commissioning artwork. Communication skills: It doesn’t
matter if you’re a broadcast Journalist, reporter or magazine journalist, any journalism role
requires top-notch verbal and written communication skills
Task 4 Develop the following thoughts with the statements from the text.
1. Quite often reporters are not well thought of because they do not present themselves in
a professional manner.
:As journalists we must always be ready when there is a new news or interesting news. In

2. Reporters are one type of journalists.

work just to find and transmit data. Meanwhile, a journalist is sometime just a writer behind
a particular news.
3. Many people consider “a journalist” interchangeable with “a reporter”
:Journalists and reporters are essential to the news cycle. They help people understand and
come to terms with recent events. In this case is a journalist interchangeable with a
reporter? based on the text this could be because journalists and reporters actually have
almost the same task in carrying out their work. The task of reporters and journalists is to
collect news and also publish it, but reporters can also broadcast it live. This is also how a
journalist can become a reporter because journalists can collect data and broadcast it live.

: Can higher education be a benchmark to become a journalist? There must be people who

have a high education must have a broader insight. To be a journalist is not only requires
education, but also knowledge, knowledge to expert the news they currently carry.
