NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard which is identical with IS0 9248 : 1992 ‘Earth-moving machinery - Units for
dimensions, performance and capacities, and their measurement accuracies’, issued by Interna-
tional Organization for Standardization ( IS0 ) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on
the recommendations of Bulk Handling Systems and Equipment Sectional Committee and approval
of the Heavy Mechanical Engineering Division Council.

The text of IS0 standard has been approved for publication as Indian Standard without deviations.
Certain terminology are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is
particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear, ,referring to this standard, they should
be read as ‘Indian Standard’
b) Comma (J has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice
is to use a point (.) as a decimal marker.

In this adopted standard, reference appears to IS0 6165 : 1987 ‘Earth-moving machinery - Basic
types -Vocabulary’ for which Indian Standard also exits. The corresponding Indian Standard which
is identical with International Standard and shall be substituted in its place is IS 12138 : 1993
‘Earth-moving machinery - Basic types - Vocabulary ( first revision )‘.

In reporting the results of a test or analysis made in accordance with this standard, if the final value,
observed or calculated, is to be rounded off, it shall be done in accordance with IS 2 : 1960 ‘Rules
for rounding off numerical values ( revised )‘.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

In this adopted standard, reference also appears to IS0 1000 : 1981 ‘SI units and recommendations
for the use ot their multiples and of certain other units’ for which Indian Standard also exits. The
corresponding Indian Standard which is identical with this International Standard and shall be
substituted in its place is IS 10005 : 1985 ‘SI units and recommendations for the use of their multiples
and of certain other units ( first revision )‘,
