MODULE 3
ANSWER ONLY
Activity 1
1. What are the three dynamic process of Globalization?
i. Time and space compression.
ii. Global consciousness and reflexivity.
iii. Disembeddedness.
2. What are their (dynamic process) significant contribution to international
communication?
 The process of time-space compression began in the 18th century with the
invention of the mechanical clock and continued into the 19th century with the
development of global time zones (Beniger, 1986). It has accelerated over the
past century as different forms of transportation have enabled people to move
across the globe at ever-faster rates of speed. Likewise, time-space compression
increased with successive communication inventions, which facilitated the
development of what has become instantaneous communication at a distance.
 Communication plays a central role in creating global consciousness and in the
reflexive processes of creating and recreating human community. The more we
learn about people, places, and events around the world, the more global we
become. Globalization is not just an event that is happening all around us, it is
something that we help to create because we participate in the world wide
communication processes that raise global consciousness for all. Participation in
these processes is as much active as it is passive.
 Disembeddedness process of freeing human interaction from its local contexts
is important because it provides the foundation for reconnecting them to others at
a distance. This restructuring creates radically different sets of connections and
thereby opens up the possibility of new forms of groups, organizations, society,
and the entire world system
3. How does International Communication affect globalization? Write your answer
by incorporating current facts and events as examples.
 Global communication is directly affected by the process of globalization, and
helps to increase business opportunities, remove cultural barriers and develop
a global village. Both globalization and global communication have changed the
environmental, cultural, political and economic elements of the world.
Globalization increases worldwide technology, and the readability of fast,
effective communication and consumption of popular products. Globalization
links cultures and international relations on a variety of levels; economics,
politically, socially, etc.
 Evidence suggests that globalization has a positive effect on the country's
economic growth and employment. In particular, trade openness and foreign
portfolio flows have contributed to higher per capita GDP growth in
the Philippines, following the implementation of FX liberalization reforms.
Activity 2
Directions: Clip two photos that portray positive and negative effects of
Globalization in politics and culture. In two-three paragraphs, discuss your
answer.
Positive Effect

Negative Effect

Globalization is the word used to describe the growing interdependence of the

world's economies, cultures, and populations, brought about by cross-border trade in
goods and services, technology, and flows of investment, people, and information. With
globalization in our world, it has a positive effect on our country as well as a negative
impact on our society. With the continuous change of our environment and development
in various fields, our society is gradually evolving and developing modern practices in
various fields.

The first two pictures above show the positive impact of globalization on our
world. With the advent of globalization, the unity of the nations of the world continues to
be strong. Through this, the goods and products move freely and also Filipinos are
being recognized and known the talent and skill in various fields. Globalization has
spurred the spread of new technology, helping to make economies greener and more
productive. Having an opening of new businesses and occupations and with the
continuous merging forces of countries, more prosperous economies.

On the other side, another picture shows the negative effect of globalization. The
man is cleaning and covering the old houses, which represents the developing
countries, because of the new apartments. It shows that globalization makes the gap
between the rich and the poor; it accelerated world inequality. Globalization also have
its side effects to the developed nations. These include some factors which are jobs
insecurity, fluctuation in prices, terrorism, fluctuation in currency, capital flows and so
on.
