Lyubov Shashkova is a poet.
She has worked for various literary and creative organisations and has been
deputy editor-in-chief of the Prostor journal since 2003. She has published ten poetry collections and a
collection of stories based on true events. The major motif of her verses is the beauty of Kazakh and
Belorussian landscapes. Her Hraniteli Ognia (Keepers of the Fire) creates portraits of major figures of
contemporary Kazakh literature and culture. She has also published a collection of her translations of
works by members of the Kazakh intelligentsia of the early 20th century, banned in the USSR, from
Kazakh into Russian. Her works have been published in several countries and have featured in Chinese,
Ukrainian, and Russian literary anthologies. She has been awarded the order Qurmet, the medals Eren
Enbegi Ushin and 20 Years of Independence and various international awards, and is an Honoured
Worker of Kazakhstan.
