Precalculus - Q1 Performance Task

The document provides instructions for a group project to analyze equations and identify their type as conic sections or other curves. Students will graph the equations using Desmos and determine properties like the center, foci, and asymptotes. They must submit their work and graph as a single PDF file by October 29.

1st Semester, Quarter 1, SY 2021-2022

PERFORMANCE TASK
“Desmos Graphing Project”
Deadline of submission: October 29, 2021
INSTRUCTIONS:
Below is a list of equations that corresponds to any of the conic sections and nondegenerate
curves.

Note: Disregard the information found inside the { }, these are simply restrictions to the domain and range of
the equations to better illustrate it in the graph.

Your task is….

1. Divide the class into groups with 4-5 members.
2. Examine the equations above.
3. Determine whether the equation is a circle, parabola, hyperbola, ellipse, a point, or a line.
4. If the equation represents a conic section, find the following:
a. Circle
o Coordinates of the center and radius
b. Parabola
o Coordinates of the vertex, focus and equation of the directrix
c. Ellipse
o Coordinates of the center, foci, vertices
d. Hyperbola
o Coordinates of the center, foci, vertices, equation of the asymptote.
5. Go to desmos.com/calculator and encode the equations above as well as the domain and
range restrictions. You may edit the colors to make it more presentable.
6. Take a screenshot of the final picture and attach it in 1 PDF file along with the answer to #3
and #4.
7. Brightspace and GForm submission link will open next Monday, October 25.
8. You are free to write / type and organize your answers however you want as long as it is
comprehensive and in ONE PDF FILE.
