Notes to the Technical Delivery Specification
The subjects of these specifications, in addition to the data given, are the test methods by which the data have
been determined. The test methods can be received if desired. The following notes briefly describe the test and
assessment conditions. In other test media and/or under other test conditions, these values might differ.
Please take information about characteristic fastness values for the product (lightfastness, heatstability, etc.)
from the pattern cards. These values are not subjected to routine checks.
The pigment in question is an organic colorant, whose main field of application is in the printing ink sector,
mostly offset printing. Standardisation has been designed accordingly.
Note on 2 - Coloristic properties
Testing of the coloristic properties is carried out in accordance with the test method No. 3/1 "Testing of
pigments for offset printing", in comparison with the standard quality of the product.
The assessment of the reduction is carried out colorimetrically. The relative tinctorial strength is determined by
means of the weighted K/S-sum. The residual color difference after strength adjustment is divided - in
accordance with the CIELAB-formula (DIN 6174) - into the lightness contribution ∆L, shade contribution ∆H,
and chroma contribution ∆C. The tinctorial strength is given as relative tinctorial strength compared to the
standard. For the shade assessment, we use ∆H, and for the purity of shade we use ∆C, both after adjustment of
the tinctorial strength to the standard. ∆L is not assessed because the value approaches zero after tinctorial
strength adjustment.
The full shade is assessed visually.
Note on 3 - pH value
An aqueous pigment slurry containing 5 % pigment is filtered and in the filtrate the pH value is measured at
room temperature in accordance with test method no. 1/9.
Note on 4 - Specific conductivity
An aqueous pigment slurry containing 5 % pigment is filtered and in the filtrate the specific conductivity is
measured in accordance with test method
no. 1/10. It is an indication of watersoluble electrolytes contained in the pigment powder.
Note on 5 - Volatile matter
The percentage by mass of matter volatile from a pigment sample is determined at 105 °C by means of an IR
lamp. The sample is being heated until it reaches constant weight (according to ISO 787/2).
Note on 6 - Sieve residue
Determination of residue on sieve according to DIN 53195 (see test method no. 1/3). The mesh width of the
sieve is 0.063 mm.

Note on 7 - Fastness to solvents
The fastness to solvents is determined on the pigment powder in accordance with test method No. 1/4 in a
solvent mixture of the following composition:
30 % ethyl acetate
10 % 1-methoxy-2-propanol
10 % acetone
30 % ethyl alcohol
20 % xylene
The staining of the solvent is assessed visually in comparison to the product standard.
Note on Diaryl Pigments
Diaryl Pigments must not be used in polymers if the processing temperature exceeds 200 °C, because of
possible thermal decomposition. At temperatures above 200 °C aromatic amines (EC Carc. Cat. 2) can be
formed.
