Praxis Core Exam Analysis
Exam Requirements
Passing the Praxis Core Exam is something that all students who are seeking a degree in
Education must achieve in order to continue his or her education. Those looking to advance to a
4-year college like UNLV, NSC, or UNR and receive his or her Bachelor’s degree in Education
must pass the Praxis Core Exam.
In Nevada, the passing scores for the Praxis Core Exam are as follows; for Math, a score
of at least 150, for Reading, a score of at least 156, and for Writing, a score of at least 162. I will
also need to take another exam because I am seeking my degree in Elementary Education, and
that requires an exam for Specific Licensure Areas (Elementary Education). In order to pass that
exam, I must receive a score of 157 in Math, a score of 157 in Reading and Language Arts, a
score of 159 in Science, and a score of 155 in Social Studies.
Exam Preparation
Prior to taking the Praxis Core Exam, I read about the exam and studied the requirements
that I would need to pass. I also looked into the C-Best Exam, which is another option for those
to take who are continue his or her education in Education. I wanted to be prepared for the Praxis
Core Exam, so I looked at how long I would have to take each test, I weighed the options of
taking all the exams at one or separately, and I checked into getting the fees waived for the
Praxis Core Exam.
Then, I prepared for the exam by accessing the Khan Academy website and utilizing the
Praxis Preparation. I probably didn’t practice as much as I needed or should have, but I did
manage to get as much done as I could and still pass. When it is time to take the actual Praxis
Core Exam, I will for sure need to study and practice more than I did for the practice exam.
Exam Results
In Reading, I scored 43% and of course that means I need significant improvement. This
is the area where I studied least and obviously it shows. I also had very little quiet time and was
trying to study with distractions, which is never suggested. Though I scored bad, I was able to
see my flaws and the areas that I needed to work on. I was able to see that I need a quiet place to
read.
Then, in Writing, I scored 73%. This score puts me at the borderline of being able to pass
the Praxis Core Exam. This means that I have a lot more practicing to do and that I should study
more to get into a more secure grading range.
Finally, in Math, I scored 85% and this means I will be likely to pass to math section of
the Praxis Core Exam. This is exciting news to me because all though I am not horrible at math, I
test horrible with math. The test seemed easy, and I was able to review my mistakes.
Future Exam Preparation
To further prepare myself to pass the exam I will need to utilize the Khan Academy
website as much as I can until I am comfortable with each subject, especially reading. I set a
schedule of training with reminders to help me manage my time better. I am also utilizing the
study guides on www.teacherstestprep.com . I was able to see the areas that I need to strengthen
and those are the areas I will focus on. I will also give myself more study time and I am
considering buying a study book, especially since I like reading paper print over onscreen print
when it comes to studying.
