Name: Jada Carswell
Type of project, piece or selection: Acrostic Poem
Class for which this assignment was done: Dramatic Writing
Purpose of Assignment (3-5 sentences):
The purpose of this assignment was for us, the students to create an acrostic poem on the word
Graduation. We had to use our knowledge of words and create something meaningful. Our poem
didn’t need a set rhyme scheme, but it needed to have meaning to us. We are seniors about to
graduate, so we had to write what that means to us.
New things I learned from this assignment are (3-5 sentences):
In doing this assignment, I was able to look into myself and see how I feel. I wasn’t aware of the
true feelings that I had for school. I was always ready to be gone from school without noticing
what school really taught me. The best lessons aren’t taught and being a senior has opened my
eyes to that.
Challenges (3-5 sentences):
A challenge that I had with this assignment was putting my feelings into words. I found it
difficult to find words that portrayed what I was feeling inside. Another thing I found difficult
was formatting. I’ve seen many great examples on how to format an acrostic poem, no way
seemed to stick to me. So I instead of trying some fancy way of putting my poem, I decided on a
very basic way that stayed true to my style.
