Book of Ezekiel (Part 3) - Ps Kong

Eze 16 - Longest prophecy in the whole bible

Eze 16:1-8
As sinners, we were unclean, uncared, unclothed and unclaimed.
God came to us, had compassion on us, cleansed us, cured us, covered us,
Grace of God = undeserved, unmerited favor & blessing freely given by God to us (Eph
2:8-9).

Eze 16:9
We are anointed with the oil of the Holy Spirit. We are consecrated for His glory.

Eze 16:10-15
Jerusalem has forgotten that all the wealth is undeserved gifts from the Lord.
Like us, we were in the miry debt of sin and now, because of Jesus, we are now seated
with the princes. As such, we trusted in our own achievements.
“Played the harlot” = spiritual prostitution/adultery = instead of giving God their worship,
they were giving their faith to idols

Eze 10:16-21
God blessed Jerusalem with children. But they took the babies ad offered them as human
sacrifices to their pagan gods.

Eze 16:26-32
In those days, the worship of pagan gods usually involved sexual immorality.

Eze 16:33-34
An idol is anything that takes the place of God in our lives. Anything that consumes your
attention, time, energy and devotion beyond what is normal.
Anything that God blesses you with can become an idol in your life.
Doing daily quiet time is so important. We are humbling ourselves and bowing our hearts
to allow God to recalibrate our lives daily.
Quiet time is one of the surest way you will never have idols in your life.
When God lifts us up, we can be so busy and successful that Godʼs place can be
dethroned from our lives.

Eze 16:35-39
The reason why we are protected is because God passes over us. There is protection.
When the grace of God is lifted from our lives, we will be ravaged by the enemy.

Eze 16:40-41
The Jews went into a 70-year Babylonian captivity.
When God judges the wicked, it is to punish them.
When God judges the righteous, it is to purify them.
So that we can become “partakers of His holiness” (Heb 12:10).
We partake of Godʼs holiness as we endure his divine discipline.
Without his discipline, we can never become holy (2 Cor 7:1).
Holiness takes time. Holiness has to be perfected. It has to go through a painful process.
Eze 16:48-50
Judah has corrupted themselves more than Sodom.
4 Sins of Sodom: 1) Pride, 2) Fullness of food (materialism), 3) Abundance of idleness, 4)
Not taking care of the poor and needy.

Eze 16:51-52
In judgment of the righteous, God always remembers mercy.
Eze 16:60 (2 Tim 2:13)

Eze 16:62-63

Hosea 2 (2 books after Ezekiel)

Hos 2:13-15
1st daughter of Hosea = “Lo-Ruhamah” = not loved
2nd son of Hosea = “Lo-Ammi” = not My people
“The Valley of Achor” = the valley of trouble
In the midst of severe trouble, God will give us a door of hope.
We must major on hope.

Hos 2:16
“My Master” is Baali.
Baal used to be a name of God to the Israelites, until the Jews had used it to worship idols.
A master constitutes servitude and distance.
“My Husband” is Ishi.
A husband constitutes love.
All of life is a preparation for us to be the bride of Jesus Christ.

Hos 2:17; 3:1-2

Deut 32:10; Zech 2:8; Heb 10:30

When God judges His people, those who rejoice with it will likewise come under judgment
(Pro 24:17-18).

#1: Judgment against Ammon

Eze 25:1-4
The Ammonites were rejoicing at the destruction of 3 things: 1)
“Men of the East” = Babylonians
In 581 BC, Nebuchadnezzar subjugated Ammon (Eze 25:6).
1 Cor 13:5-6

Eze 25:6-7

#2: Judgment again Moab

Eze 25:8
Moab is full of envy and jealousy against the Israelites.
Ammon and Moab are both close relatives of Israel. They are descendants of Lot.
Gen 19:36-38
Natural Adultery = Unfaithfulness to spouse
Spiritual Adultery = Unfaithfulness to God
Balaam is a gifted man, but he is not a faithful man
Not every Christian will be able to come close to Godʼs throne because of idols in their
hearts.

1 Jn 2:9; 1 Jn 3:15; 1 Jn 4:20

You must cherish Godʼs blessing.
When people lose Godʼs blessings through disobedience, often what will develop is an
eternal hatred against those who inherit them in their place.
Jer 18:11

Eze 25:10-11

#3: Judgment against Edom

Eze 25:12
Sin of Edom is open violence and aggression.
Esau was the grandson of Abraham.
Heb 12:16-17
Jacob has respect for the things of God more than Esau, who has a better character.
Amos 1:11
It is one thing to dislike someone else, but to openly betray your own brother with such
contempt is unacceptable to God.

Obadiah 3 (5 books after Ezekiel)

Pride of your heart = presumptuous godlessness (thinking that you can break Godʼs
principles and get away)
Jerusalem = 760m above sea level
Edom = 1,800m high

Obad 10
Esau and Jacob were twin brothers.
Edom is a brother nation to the Jews.

Obad 11
It is one thing for the Babylonians to attack Judah.
Even Edom joined Babylon in the attack.

Obad 12-14

#4: Judgment against Philistia

Eze 25:15
Sin of great bitterness and hatred.
Heb 12:15
Some christians finish strong and some fall by the wayside.
A trial is either going to make you bitter or better. Itʼs your choice.
Grace is always available when you are in times of pressure and suffering.
All trials are permitted by God.
“Bitter root” springs up when we allow disappointment to grow into resentment.
Bitterness to the soul is like cancer to the body.
Those who become bitter in a trial will become resentful and infectious to others.
Mt 24:10
Itʼs good to have a high sense of justice and morality. But that sense of justice must be
tempered by mercy and grace. Otherwise you will be a terrible person.
We need to watch our hearts especially when we see other people getting ahead of us in
our company or cell group.
To love one another as Jesus has loved us is something supernatural.
If you do not have the power of the Holy Spirit, it is impossible to love like the way Jesus
loved us.
Donʼt let anything keep you from forgiving others.
Even when it is emotionally difficult to do it, lean on Godʼs grace.
