Ceres: Pluto's Inner Solar Cousin?

Ceres, the largest object in the asteroid belt, may have originally formed in the outer solar system like Pluto rather than where it is now found. It has physical properties like a high ice content that match Pluto and other icy objects from beyond Neptune rather than local asteroids. Some researchers believe massive disruptions in the early solar system caused by the migration of Uranus and Neptune could have pulled objects like Ceres from the outer solar system to the asteroid belt billions of years ago. While its origins are still debated, Ceres may provide evidence that the early layout of the solar system was rearranged through dynamic processes.
