1. Conduct of Examination

Higher Secondary Examination is conducted twice in a year.

1. Higher Secondary Examinations, March / April


2. Higher Secondary Supplementary Examinations, June / July

2. Scheme of Examination

a) Subjects

Examination will be conducted for the following subjects on the dates fixed
by the Director of Government Examinations. The syllabus and text books are
prescribed by the State Council of Educational Research and Training for Higher
Secondary First Year / Second Year (State Board).

Examination Duration Subjects

Part I (Language) 3 hours Permitted languages:


Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu,
Malayalam, Urdu, Sanskrit, Arabic,
French and German

Part II – English 3 hours English

Part III – 4 subjects 3 hours Any four subjects from the group of
General Stream or Vocational Stream.

ii. For Direct Private candidates -
Annexure II.

• Permitted medium for Part III subjects are Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam,
Kannada, Urdu & English.
• Question papers will be provided only in Tamil and English. However for the
Ten subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Botany, Zoology,
Mathematics, History, Commerce, Economics and Accountancy question
papers will also be provided in Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Urdu
medium.

b) Completion of Higher Secondary course:

• Those students who have not passed in any subject in XI standard are
still eligible to continue for the Higher Secondary Second year course.

• For Higher Education, the candidates should have passed in all the
subjects of XI and XII Standard Examinations.

3. School students
a) Eligibility

A Pass in SSLC or equivalent examination. They should have studied


in a recognized School.

b) Age
Candidates should have completed the age of 15 on or before the 1st
day of the month in which the Higher Secondary First year Examination is to
be held.

c) Exam Fees

G.Os of concession to the Differently abled candidates are published in this


website www.dge.tn.gov.in under Government Orders.

e) Process

The heads of the school should upload the Nominal Roll i.e. the particulars of
the pupils who are appearing for the public examination from their schools in the
prescribed format in the website of this Directorate on the dates announced by the
Directorate of Government Examinations.

4. Private Candidate :

a) Eligibility

Higher Secondary Examination for Private candidates will be held during


March / April and Supplementary Examination is being conducted during June /
July. Notification will be issued by this Department in dailies. Private Candidates
applying for Higher Secondary Examination are classified under two categories as
detailed below :

1.HIGHER SECONDARY FIRST YEAR EXAMINATION

Regular Private candidates (H)

Direct Private candidates (HP) Eligibility criteria:

3. They must have a minimum of one


year gap from the year of passing of SSLC
examination or equivalent Examination

4. They should have completed 15½ years


of age on the 1st day of April / 1st day of
June of the year in which the Examination
is to be held.

5. Candidates can appear only for the


subjects not involving practical under
General Education (Annexure - II).

NOTE:
No Transfer Certificate will be issued along with the Mark Certificate to Direct
Private Candidates and no other claim regarding T.C. will be entertained.

2. HIGHER SECONDARY SECOND YEAR EXAMINATION

Private candidates 1. Failed / Absent Candidates who have

c) Registration of application for March / April session

Candidates are instructed to approach their nearest Government


Examinations Service Centres (Nodal Centres) for online registration for their
private appearance. The list of Nodal Centres has been provided in the website of
Directorate of Government Examinations (www.dge.tn.gov.in).

The fee for the examination has to be remitted in cash at the nodal centre
itself.
Demand draft, challan or cheque will not be accepted.

d) Important instructions regarding Practical Examination

Failed Candidates who have secured 35 and above marks in theory


examination and internal but did not appear in the practical examination should
necessarily appear for the practical examination only.

Failed Candidates, who have secured below 35 marks in theory examination


and internal but did not appear in practical examination, should necessarily appear
for both theory and practical examinations.

5, Hall Ticket

(a) For School candidates


Hall ticket with candidate’s photo is uploaded in the official website of this
Directorate which has to be downloaded by the School. Roll numbers will be
assigned in Nominal Roll and uploaded in the website which has to be downloaded
by the school before Commencement of Practical Examinations.
(b) For Private Candidates
The private candidates have to download their Hall tickets through the
Directorate’s website. Instructions regarding downloading of hall tickets will be
given in DGE Website www.dge.tn.gov.in. Notification regarding this will be
published in News Channels / Newspapers. Candidates have to enter their
application number and date of birth in order to download their Hall Tickets. Name
of the Examination centre allotted to the candidates will be mentioned in the Hall
ticket.
6, Registration of application for June Session:

i) For candidates who have already appeared in March Session , Registration of


the application for appearing in June / July Supplementary Examination has to be
done through the school last studied / examination centres written in March
session These candidates have to enter his March/ April Examination Roll Number
and date of birth in order to download the Hall ticket.

ii) For those candidates who have not already appeared in the March Session ,
Registration of the application for appearing in June / July Supplementary
Examination has to be done in their nearest Government Examinations Service
Centres (Nodal Centres). These candidates have to enter his Application Number
and date of birth in order to download the Hall ticket.
Time Table for the Higher Secondary First year / Second year Examinations
will be hosted in the Directorate’s official website (www.dge.tn.gov.in)

7, Releasing of results:

The intimation regarding result release will be published in all News


Channels/Newspapers.

8, Issuance of Statement of Marks through online:

After the publication of results candidates are permitted to download the


statement of marks through the Directorate’s official website on the dates
prescribed by this Department.

9. Issuance of Certificate
a) Minimum pass for school candidates (New pattern- 600 Marks)

Minimum mark for a pass in each subject is 35 out of 100 marks subjected to
the following conditions.

• For languages and for the subjects which do not have practical, candidate
must have secured a minimum of 25 out of 90 marks.

• For the subjects consisting of theory and practical, candidate must have
secured a minimum of 15 out of 70 marks in theory and must have appeared
for practical.

• For vocational subjects consisting of practical only, candidate must have


secured a minimum of 20 out of 75 marks in practical.

This is also applicable for those who do not pass for the first time
as school students and who appear for the examination again as
private candidates.

b) Method of awarding marks for Direct private candidates


(New pattern- 600 Marks)

The system of awarding internal marks is not applicable to direct private


candidates.
Marks obtained for 90 in theory will be converted to 100 marks and the
minimum marks for a pass is 35 out of 100 in each subject.
This includes passing under the compartmental system also.

c) Method of awarding marks for private candidates who have already


appeared in the Higher Secondary Second year examination in Old
pattern (1200 Marks)

Failed and absent candidates who had already appeared for earlier
session (200 Marks for each subjects and Total Marks 1200) of Higher
Secondary second year Examination in old pattern, may apply for the failed or
absented subjects only. For those candidates, examination will be conducted
only in new syllabus and new pattern (For each subject out of 70 / 90).

i) Examinations will be conducted for 90 Marks for Language and English


subjects in the new pattern. The marks obtained by the candidates for 90 in
these subjects will be multiplied by two and converted for 180 marks and marks
obtained for Aural / Oral Examination out of 20 Marks will be added along with
these marks and result will be published for 200 marks. Minimum marks for a
pass is 70 out of 200 Marks

ii) Examination will be conducted for Practical involving subjects for 70


Marks in the new pattern. Marks obtained for 70 in theory will be converted to
150 marks. Marks obtained in the practical Examination out of 50 Marks will be
added along these marks and result will be published for 200 marks. Minimum
marks for a pass is 30 out of 150 in theory Examination and 40 out of 50 in the
Practical Examination.

iii) Examination will be conducted for Non Practical subjects for 90 Marks in
the new pattern. Marks obtained for 90 in theory will be converted to 200 marks
and the result will be published. Minimum marks for a pass is 70 out of 200
Marks.

d) Mark Certificate

As per the new scheme, separate mark certificates for higher secondary first
year and second year will be issued for the candidates who have passed in all
subjects.

e) Statement of marks

Statement of marks combining of higher secondary first year and second year
Examinations will be issued to those candidates who have failed either in the first
year or in the second year in any subject.

f) Migration certificate
Migration Certificates are issued to the candidates, who have passed in Tamil
Nadu syllabus in SSLC / Higher Secondary Examinations based on their
application if they wish to continue their higher studies in other states / abroad.
The procedure for Migration Certificate and the Application form have been
provided in the website of the Directorate of Government Examinations
(www.dge.tn.gov.in).

10.Transparency in Valuation :

With a view to bring transparency in the evaluation system, the following


measures are adopted for the examinations stated against them.

Re-totalling

(a) Scan copy of Answer Scripts

With a view to bring transparency in the evaluation system, scan copies of


Higher Secondary Examination answer scripts are issued through online to the
candidates for all subjects. Candidates who seek scan copies of their answer
scripts should apply through school / exam centres in the Directorate’s official
website (www.dge.tn.gov.in). The fee has to be remitted in cash at the school
where they studied last / Examination centre. Candidate should receive the
acknowledgement slip, after registration of scan copy.

Approximately within 15 days after processing the scan copy application


scan copies of answer scripts will be uploaded in the Directorate’s official website.
When the intimation regarding downloading of Answer Scripts is given in the DGE
Website / newspapers / news channels the candidate has to enter Register No. &
Date of Birth in order to download the Scan copy of the Answer Script.

(b) Revaluation :

Only those candidates, who apply for scan copy of answer scripts are
permitted to apply for revaluation. Revaluation is also permitted for all subjects
in Higher Secondary first year / second year Examination.

While downloading the scan copies of their answer scripts the candidate
should download the application for Re-Valuation / Re-totalling II in the official
website and duly fill it and have to submit it to the concerned Chief Educational
Officer along with the fee in cash within the stipulated period of time announced by
Directorate of Government Examinations.

In Re-valuation, all the answers will be re-valued by a team of three subject


experts. If there is any decrease or increase in total marks these marks would be
taken as the final and a new mark certificate will be issued to the candidate and
old certificate will be cancelled.

Marks obtained in revaluation is final and further appeal will not be


entertained. This system has ensured not only transparency in the evaluation
methods but also brings into focus the responsibility of teachers.

Fee for revaluation of each subject - Rs.505/- (per Answer Script Rs.500/- for
revaluation and Rs. 5/- for Service Charges)

(c) Re-totalling

Candidates are permitted to apply for re-totalling-I in all subjects (without


applying for scan copy) within the dates announced by this Department after the
publication of results. In Re-totalling, the marks already awarded will be re-totalled
question-wise and page-wise. Unvalued answer will be considered for awarding of
marks. If the candidate claims for awarding more marks for valued answer, his / her
request will not be considered. If there is any increase of marks, a new mark
certificate will be issued to the candidate by cancelling the old certificate. If the
candidate applies for Re-totalling, he / she will not be provided with scanned copy
of answer scripts.

Re-totalling- II :
The process of applying for re-totalling after getting scan copies of answer
scripts in Higher Secondary Examinations.

For each Subject Rs.200 + 5/- (Service charge Rs.5/-)

For Biology subject Rs.300 + 5/- (Service Charges Rs.5/-)

GENERAL GROUPS WITHOUT PRACTICALS FOR DIRECT PRIVATE
CANDIDATES

For Direct Private Candidates, the syllabus and text books are the same as
followed in regular schools (State Board) for Higher Secondary course.
Direct Private Candidates will be admitted in any one of the following
five groups of subjects only, in addition to Part I and Part II Languages under
the new syllabus introduced in the academic year 2018-2019.
