5 PAM-1 Operation Instruction

The document provides instructions for using a Potential Acuity Meter (PAM). The PAM tests retinal visual acuity and potential vision using interference fringes. It has two models, the PAM-1 and PAM-2. The instructions describe turning the device on, having a patient view the interference fringes at different visual acuity levels, and interpreting the results to determine the patient's potential visual acuity. Maintenance, troubleshooting, specifications, and additional operation details are also outlined.

Ⅰ.Brief Introduction

PAM-1、PAM-2 potential acuity meter(or called retinal visual acuity, interference

fringe visual acuity) used for test potential vision addressability. It is available for
visual inspection of relevant department such as community medical instrument,
hospital and so on.
According to the principle of interference, coherent monochromatic light can
produce interference fringes. These images can be the sighting mark to test the

3
vision. The vision examined by this sighting mark called Interference Fringe Visual
Acuity (IVA), also known as potential visual acuity or retinal visual acuity.
This instrument will not be influenced by dioptric system on the maximum limit.
The instrument is useful for forecasting the post-operative visual acuity of
cataract. It is the preoperative conventional testing instrument for extraction of
cataract and intraocular lens implantation. It can also be the auxiliary testing
equipment for retinal detachment, macular hole, penetrating cornea transplantation
and preoperative prediction of glaucoma postoperative visual function recovery. And
it has application value in the evaluation and guidance of amblyopia treatment
effect.

of 0.8. If wrong, the test finished. The indicated value of last gear is the vision acuity
of the person.
5.In order to find the position of pupil accurately, the instrument show the
position of pupil with display screen. It aimed correctly if the pupil is in the middle
position of the screen.
