GENERAL:
This Technical Publication describes the changes made in the shape of the waste ink joint section of the
Purge Unit for improved cleaning function.
DETAILS:
The shape of the waste ink joint section of the Purge Unit has been changed so that there is no elevated area
in the drain route.
This will improve the ink drainage in the ink tubes and, therefore, will improve the cleaning function.

1. Parts
Purge Kit (QM3-5988-000) No. 1 in the table below, which contains the parts in No. 2-6; have been
assigned as service parts. These parts are for retaining the compatibility with the old joints.
Note:
For the main body with the old joint, when replacing the Purge Unit, the said bundled parts
should also be replaced at the same time.
For the main body with new joint installed, there is no need to replace the joint afterwards.

2. Installation procedure of new Purge Unit
A. Remove the Purge Unit.
(See Chapter 4 Purge Unit, in the Service Manual).

B. Install the Drain Joint Base (QC3-1928-000) to the frame with the Drain Joint Tape (QC3-
1939-000)
C. Position to affix the double-sided tape

D. Remove the transparent tubes from the old joint connected to the main body.

G. Install the new Purge Unit.
H. Install each joint to the Drain Joint Base as described above.
Note: Ensure the tubes are fully inserted.

(3) Transparent tube connected to main body: large internal diameter → Color side

3. Precautions for Purge Unit replacement.
When removing the Purge Unit, remove the tubes from the joint sections that are indicated below.
When installing the new Purge Unit, install the tubes at the joint sections in the same order. Ensure
that the tube with the white mark is installed under the other tube.
