ISLAMIC CONTRIBUTION TO
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
PART 1. MIRACLES FROM THE
QURAN

Sign of God
According to the Muslims, this is
the Qur'an.
And this one Sign is still with us.
Fair - a Muslim who takes his
religion seriously suffers no
disadvantage to Muslims who lived
fourteen centuries ago.

Those people who kept company with the Prophet had
access to no more of the necessary information than we
have today. They had the Qur'an. That was the sign for
them. It is still a sign to us today, the same miracle.
This Book is meant to command and guide humanity until
the end of time. That the passage of fourteen centuries
has not made the slightest dent in its language or literary
beauty is only one evidence of that unique role.
The Quran is amazing
NOT just an old book which came fourteen centuries ago
from the Arabian desert.
Quran is the most read and the only completely
memorised book in the whole world.
It is also the most studied book in the world.
Claims that the Qur’an anticipates modern scientific
knowledge are widely circulated.
The Qur’an makes statements of scientific facts that
science would discover centuries later but none that
science could ever refute.
Attitude towards education
Islam urges people to read and learn on every occasion.
The verses of the Qur'an command, advise, warn, and
encourage people to observe the phenomena of nature,
the succession of day and night, the movements of the
stars, the sun, the moon, and other heavenly bodies.

The Origin of Universe & Life
• "Have not the disbelievers seen that the Heavens and
the Earth were one piece and We parted them? And
We made every living thing from water. Will they not
then believe?" [Al-Anbiyaa 21:30]
• "Haben die Ungläubigen nicht gesehen, daß die
Himmel und die Erde eine Einheit waren, die Wir dann
zerteilten? Und Wir machten aus dem Wasser alles
Lebendige. Wollen sie denn nicht glauben? "
- (in the Qur'an, 'We' is used not to show plurality, that
several Gods exist but rather as a sign of respect)
The universally accepted theory of
'the origin of the universe' is now the
BIG BANG THEORY. It maintains
that at one time ALL OF HEAVENS
AND THE EARTH were one piece,
the 'monoblock' as it is called. At a
particular point in time, this
'monoblock' burst and it continues to
expand. This is the origin of the
universe we have today.
The Big Bang was introduced as a
scientific theory only in the 20th
century.
The Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to those
who confirmed the Big Bang Theory as the origin
of the universe – only a few years ago.
And - It was only 200 years ago that
Leeuwenhoek and others perfected the
microscope and discovered for the first time that
living cells are composed of 80% water.
The above information which was scientifically
confirmed only in the last 2 centuries, can be
found in the Qur'an which originated 14 centuries
ago! Could it then have been written by an
ordinary man or can it only be the work of God?
“ ... this very information is exactly what they awarded
the 1973 Noble Prize for ... The Qur'an reveals the
origin of the universe - how it began from one piece -
and mankind continues to verify this revelation, even
up to now. Additionally, the fact that all life originated
from water would not have been an easy thing to
convince people of fourteen centuries ago. “ Professor
of Mathematics, Dr. Gary Miller
Expansion of the Universe
The following verse of the Qur'an where God is
speaking, may perhaps be compared with modern
ideas: "The heaven, We have built it with power. Verily.
We are expanding it. " [Az-Zariyat 51:47]
" Und den Himmel haben Wir mit (Unserer) Kraft erbaut; und siehe,
wie Wir ihn reichlich geweitet haben. Und die Erde haben Wir
ausgebreitet, und wie schön breiten Wir aus! "

The expansion of the Universe is the most imposing
discovery of modern science. Today it is a firmly
established concept.

The City of Iram
The Qur'an mentions a city by the name of Iram
(89:7). For centuries, the city of Iram has been
unknown to history.
In 1973, the excavation in Syria at the site of the
ancient city of Eblus uncovered the largest
collection of clay tablets ever assembled.
In the National Geographic of 1978, they confirm
that in those tablets the city of Iram was
mentioned. The people of Eblus used to do
business with the people of Iram.
The Smallest Matter
There is a word that is usually
translated as 'atom' and it is usually
thought of in Arabic as being the
smallest item available at one time.
There is an interesting verse, in
chapter 10, verse 61, which speaks of
items the size of a zarrah (atom) or
smaller.
Modern science now find things smaller than an
atom.
There is no possibility that on this subject
someone is going to say a new discovery has
outdated the words of the Qur'an on the issue of
the size of matter or the ultimate particles. The
verse talks about items the size of a zarrah
(atom) or smaller.
[hence, it IS written in the Qur'an that an atom IS
NOT the smallest particle!]
Biomedical Sciences
"Then We [plural of majesty for God] placed him [i.e
man/woman] as a drop [Nutfa in Arabic] in a safe lodging.
Then We made the drop [Nutfa] into a leech like structure
[alaqa in Arabic]. Then out of the leech like structure, a
chewed lump [Mudghah in Arabic]. Then out of the chewed
lump bones, and We clothed the bones in flesh. Then we
developed out of it another creature. therefore, blessed be
Allah [God], the best of those that create" (23: 13-14)

"It has been a great pleasure for me to help clarify statements in the Qur'ân
about human development. It is clear to me that these statements must have
come to Muhammad from God, or Allah, because most of this knowledge was
not discovered until many centuries later. This proves to me that Muhammad
must have been a messenger of God, or Allah. " Prof Keith L. Moore.
Points to Ponder
The believers know that this Book had to be above
space and time because this is the Word of the
Creator of space and time.
But those who are looking from the outside and are
just curious may consider these additional facts:
From: Witness the Miracle by Khalid Baig
Points to Ponder (cont.)
1. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), did not go to any school,
study from any teacher, or even learn how to read and
write.
2. The style of Quran is very distinct from the words of the
Prophet (pbuh), himself, which also have been
preserved in Hadith collections. His own sayings are
embodiments of eloquence, but they have a different
style.
3. It was revealed over a twenty-three year period and
covers a very wide range of subjects yet it shows neither
a gradual development of style nor any self-
contradictions in the voluminous text.
4. The twenty-three years of Prophetic life was not a
period spent in isolation.
This is not meant to be an exhaustive list of all the evidence
that proves Quran to be the Word of God. Scholars have
written books expounding the miracle of miracles that
Quran is. But even this small sampler may propel an
inquiring mind to go and read the Book himself.
